Corn! How expensive is corn where you live? I love fresh corn!

I understand that prices for beef and vegetables have gone way up in recent months. But one thing I can still get "for a song" is corn. I bought several ears of corn for 49 cents an ear at Safeway yesterday. Corn is grown in and around Brentwood CA, less than 20 miles to the East of where I live. International tariffs are not affecting the price of corn here. At least not to my knowledge.

Sometimes when it’s on sale we can get it at 5 for $1 where I live.

@TheHorse I have no idea. I’m in NYC. I’d reckon perhaps somewhere in NJ but could be wrong.

I don’t know because I can’t eat corn. One thing I truly miss from my diet.

The price of corn varies greatly depending on the type, location and stock. Corn is still relatively cheap here, with prices ranging from less than $1 per kilogram up to $1.5 per kilogram.

In season it has a reasonable price here but not a the supermarket. You have to go to the farmer´s market where it is better and cheaper. I love it with butter and salt.

And who pick up the corn now that the immigrants have been thrown out of your country? They were very cheap, local workers are a lot more expensive.

I haven't noticed a big price increase here either. Of course tariffs are not the only issue affecting prices - there are also things like the price of fertiliser, cost of labour etc.

Those things can be affected by tarriffs. I am just enjoying local produce while I can.

Yep, corn is super easy to grow, although it does take a lot of nutrients out of the soil. That's why farmers usually grow soybeans too, to replenish their fields. I love corn! My dad used to grow it and we would shuck the fresh ears.

That's how they did it in Iowa, where I went to college. Corn one year. Soy the next. I think that nitrogen, whatever that is, was one of the things that corn gobbled up, and beans replaced.

in india corn is seasonal. People call them bhoota and majorly become available during july to october. Ofcourse the corn powder is used to make a flour called makka

I don't really buy fresh corn, so I really don't know, but I know it's generally about 25 to 40 cents an ear. We do live in the corn belt here, though.

The cheapest I saw all season was a truck that parked in one of our strip malls, and sold their corn for $7 dozen. Last summer it was $5 a dozen. It's fresh and delicious, but to me that is a lot for corn. I have a friend who brought us some several times that he grew, it was delicious.
