Ate in Eately yesterday

Yesterday, my mom and I went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. It is located inside Eately in downtown Manhattan, where the twin towers used to be. The food there is really good, but it’s not cheap. Our bill with 20% tip was around $175. I ordered a New York strip steak with fried potatoes and balsamic onions. My mom ordered fresh pasta with beef ragu. We also shared burrata with heirloom tomatoes for appetizer. For dessert each of us had a sundae: strawberry sorbet topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberry slices with vanilla gelato and frozen strawberries underneath. When the waiter brought the burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer my mom asked for some bread. We thought it was going to be free but it turned out the four slices of bread cost $5.50. It’s not really a big deal that we had to pay for the bread, however, if I had known the bread wasn’t free, I would’ve taken the leftover bread home.

$5.50 for 4 slices of bread? WOW! That was an expensive meal. I'm glad it was good.

@lovebuglena I was reading an article about a lady who went to Mahomes and Kelce's restaurant 1587 in KC...it was 800 dollars for the for of them. I am sure it was fabulous, but that would be the day!!

The bread was really good though. It wasn’t dense as it sometimes can be. The sundae alone was $16 each.

@snowy22315 Well, she can probably afford it without any problems. Or the bill was split.

My daughter wanted Italian for her birthday last week. We ordered from an Italian restaurant that has been here in Boise for decades. It was very good, and we paid about the say as you did for three meals including appetizers and desserts. Also tipped the Uber driver.

Seems like you got way more food for the same money.

@celticeagle I went to an Armenian restaurant with my mom recently and we ordered a few apps and two entrees. We had no idea their portions were big so we ended up taking a lot home.

@lovebuglena Eately is Italian, but it's not so impressive compared to an average good Italian restaurant.

I’ve never been to Eately in Italy. We have a few locations in NYC. The food is delicious in their restaurants and the food stuff they sell is too. It’s just expensive so I don’t shop there really. Can’t afford to do that unfortunately.

Glad you enjoyed the meal but that is expensive and because of rising prices I think that bread should still be given free,

We didn’t think they’d charge us for it.

I agree the bread should have been free. That is way too expensive.

I don’t mind paying for bread if it’s a specialty bread or something. I don’t think this was but it was really good and wasn’t dense like it can be sometimes. But yes, $5.50 for four slices of bread is a bit much.

I loved it, but I hate whipped cream so I have to take that off. Each sundae was $16.
