When someone constantly criticizes others for needing help, it really says more about them than the people they’re judging. Too many are misinformed, believing everyone who gets help is just “living off the government” or refusing to work. They don’t see the bigger picture and sadly, don't want to. I’ve noticed a common attitude among those who judge. They claim people should have been “prepared” all their lives, but life doesn’t work that way. Everyone’s circumstances, health, opportunities, and struggles are different. Someone can have a huge savings and great job, and one event can wipe it all out. It’s gotten ugly out there in the social media world. Sadly, I'm beginning to see it here too. I see so many immature people name-calling and putting others down. Many are not respecting other's beliefs. It's "their way or the highway." Now, with several states preparing to shut down food stamps and WIC during the government shutdown, I’ve been reading comments like, “Good, freeloaders.” It’s disheartening. What many don’t realize is that if these programs stop, the effects will ripple through every community. Grocery stores will lose revenue, prices will rise, food banks and churches will run out of supplies, and children, the elderly, and the homeless will suffer the most. Oh, but these people claim all can get jobs just "like the rest of us." Or "then they need to move somewhere they can afford more." Tell that to the one who is trying to be with their child with cancer at the hospital, or the person who is having treatments and their job let them go for missing too much work and their treatments wiped them out, or the one who was in a horrible wreck and bedridden, so can't work to feed their family....you get the picture. Not all single women (and men) who have young children were going out there having kids to freeload. Yes, I read that often too. It’s not about handouts — it’s about humanity. When one part of the system fails, it affects everyone. I wish people would work together instead of pointing fingers and trying to control others. My photo is our weather. Not relevant to the story but sharing.

It's hard to believe you live maybe fifty miles from me. Your weather is so much nastier than what I have- so far, anyway. Walmart will really have a hard time staying open if folks don't have SNAP benefits. You're right. I am more than tired of the folks who bully and sneer at others.

@noni1959 Last summer we went to Grayland for a couple of days. I was disappointed at how far away the beach was. I walked with the pups above the beach but never got to actually get down to the water. You would love my downtown- Tower Avenue has lots of shops to snoop in.

@sallypup The trail to the beach is at the other end down past the yurts and unless drive down there, it sure can be a walk. A good thing, you can drive out of the park, make a left and drive right onto the beach. At least in the summer. Winter, no. Too dangerous. It's the same with Ocean City State Park outside of Ocean Shores. There are a few trails inside the camp ground loops that lead you to the water but takes about eight minutes to walk once you are on the trail. The day use area, you can park and walk about that. OCSP is my favorite place.

I absolutely agree with you. Empathy is gone, people are judging everything and don't see clearly and don't want to see.

It's so sad. I'll see people laughing at others hardships. How can people be so awful?

Girl, sing it loud, sing it proud, and let it resonate with a few people here too. And some of the people complaining have no children so they have no clue how much money that takes!

Yes! I don't wish bad ill on anyone but it would be enlightening to them to live even a few months like those in need just to "get it."

@AmbiePam Those that do not have children, have no idea what it takes for even the basics for them.

@noni1959 I don't think they could. They would have to give up too much.

Very well said! The world certainly needs more mature people in it, especially those that can disagree without putting the other person down.

Yes, what you say is so true. People need to try to relax and not judge others so easily. They don't look at the full picture. Years ago I knew of a woman who kept having kids to get more money from the government. That was when you got welfare as to family size, not a set rate. All I could do was shake my head. I guess it takes all kinds to make this world. These types of situations sure make a person wonder. There is always the other side of the coin too. I wish people would work together and not point fingers so easily. I think that this is what Trump is doing with alot of his treatment of aliens.

I hope the saddle to that high horse has room for me. ''It’s gotten ugly out there in the social media world. Sadly, I'm beginning to see it here too.'' You are correct. We are seeing it here, too, and it's extremely concerning. I consider it to be to the bullying point. And you're right, it's not about handouts. Many people who get help with food, work full time--and they qualify because they don't make enough money. No one wants to have problems with food security. But it's there, and it's happening. Thank you for the good post.

There sure is room. I'm hoping there are others concerned too. I had someone call me one of those political ugly names in a post that had nothing to do with politics. I was floored. The post is now gone, thankfully.

@MarieCoyle Most of them do so when they are losing control. I have my FB private but have received a couple messages in my "other" inbox I reported to FB. It's been so ugly out there lately. It really saddens me.

No matter how hard it is for me to keep money in my account due to things I need and living SS to SS I have never asked for a handout,

I agree wholeheartedly with all you say. Sometimes there is just no way to make the money stretch to cover your needs. How can you present well for a job if you're living in your car?

I am in agreement with you that we are going through a storm in now that we need to unite and not judge others who are going through the same thing.

People shouldn't judge if they've never been in a needy person's shoes.

Talk to the Democrats. They are the ones who shut the government down. As for freeloaders, the world is full of them, and that's not an opinion, that's a fact. Go and watch some eviction court videos on YouTube and listen to them talk. If you do, you will understand where many of these comments and opinions come from. Many of us have EXPERIENCED them first hand. Takers, beggars, woe-is-me'ers. That's not to lump everyone in the same boat, of course. I have said many times that some people TRULY try, and some TRULY need the help. But those people are in the minority. The vast majority of people on the system and in the system are there because they want to be, not because they are forced to be. Compassion? What is that, really? Too many people think if you call out the ne-er do wells you are lacking compassion. The truth is, we're simply calling a spade a spade and some people can't handle the truth. It's like Dennis Miller once said that I completely agree with. "I don't mind helping the helpless. I mind helping the clueless. And more people are clueless than are helpless." He is 100% right about that.
