The light bulb in the stove burned out. So I took it out and went to the store to buy another light bulb for the stove. I got a small light bulb that said appliances right on the package. Took the light bulb home and put it in the stove. Tested it and it worked. Fixed dinner and turned the stove light on and it did not work. It did not turn on. OH NO!!!! Finished fixing dinner and waited for the stove to cool down, After dinner I looked in the stove and the light bulb had melted. WHAT!!! I have never had anything happen like that before. Got a potato cut it in half and got the broken light bulb out. Got a rag and got the melted light bulb pieces out. Tomorrow or Monday I will go and get another light bulb. Maybe I better make sure it says stove on it. Very strange.

The light above our sink went out about 1-2 months ago. When trying to take it out it broke. We had to cut a potato to get it all out. These newer type lights don't last as long as they claim and are made very flimsy.

A potato works really good for getting a broken light bulb out.

I've never had that problem. I hope they replace the bulb for free.

We found the box but I do not want another one from them. They should give me a refund.

That sounds very dangerous. Melted electric devises are not my kind of things.

Oh wow! I'm glad it didn't explode in the oven. That was a good idea using a potato to get the globe out. I wouldn't have thought of that.

most likely the voltage is higher than required, unplug it and do a thorough inspection or call an expert in the matter.

It may be better to take the stove along to test that it will not damage the new bulb too.

I think the stove would need a special kind because of the heat.

It said appliances on the box but it might not have been for a stove.

This IS very strange. This seems highly irregular. Appliance bulbs are specifically designed for hot and cold environments. That being said, not a single plastic bulb is designed for use in an oven.

That's really strange. I know when my oven light bulb burns out, an appliance bulb is what I get for it's replacement. I haven't ever had one melt. Very odd. I suppose there could be an issue with the socket itself, but if that were the case, wouldn't the first bulb had been melted, too?

I never thought of that the first bulb would have melted to.

@jstory07 I have a tendency to overthink on electrical stuff, but sometimes strange things happen with appliances. I hope the bulb was just defective somehow.

Is it possible that the socket has a short in it?

That is really weird. I would tell the store the bulbs they are selling are defective. It is doubtful you bought the only defective one.
