Feed America, Stop Hurting It

I usually stay out of political rants and yet, here is one of my own. When I speak up, it has to be heavy on my heart.
Last week, the attorney for the Justice Department, speaking under oath before the Supreme Court, confirmed that the U.S. government has received about $90 billion in tariffs, not trillions as some have claimed. The same attorney also stated clearly that American citizens are the ones who pay those tariffs. This money isn’t coming from other nations, it’s coming out of our own pockets.
Meanwhile, President Trump seems perfectly fine spending billions to bail out foreign countries or dropping $2,000 on self-serving tax credit promises. Yet, when it comes to feeding our disabled, our elderly, and our poor, he’s suddenly calling for an emergency stay from the Supreme Court to defy a court order that would have provided food and relief to struggling Americans.
He chose defiance. He chose pride over compassion.
If he truly believes the government has collected as much money as he says from tariffs, why not use it for good? Why not pay down the national debt and give real tax relief to the people? Instead, he offers a $2,000 tax credit, clearly timed to boost his popularity as his poll numbers dip and midterm elections approach.
If he truly wants my vote, it’s simple: feed America. Stop hurting the poor, the elderly, the disabled, and the children. Show compassion. Show leadership. Because feeding our people shouldn’t be a political game, it should be a moral duty.

It's wrong to use food as a tool to get people to do things you want them to do. So many people right now are truly hurting.

It was so wrong. I stepped back from watching or reading anything since I posted this and my friend who works for the government just said it was signed to end the shut down and she is going back to work. The snowball effect from this will take a long time to catch up and it can happen again the end of Jan. if no one agrees again.

Exactly! One event can wipe out someone's savings. My oldest daughter had emergency spinal surgery and still in a wheel chair but in therapy. Even with insurance, her out of pocket is now over $100K. It's not right. The hospitals said there is nothing they can do about it. They have to pay. Her medical hit over a million already. These people don't realize they are one event to being in the same boat.

Sadly, the situation is no different in countries where politicians are self-serving.
Ironically, China seems to have a good social security system though there is no democracy or freedom.
Then again, some countries in Western Europe seem to have more empathy for the disadvantaged among them.

We are headed back to depression days if this keeps up. Even those furloughed that worked for the government began feeling the pinch. I'm still friends with prior coworkers and one has cancer. Not getting her paycheck became extreme. She doesn't get everything covered and her savings was wiped out. It's hit so many in different ways. But the starving was just too much.

Trump has no compassion, even when he acts like he does it is fake. Everything he does is for self aggrandizement.

Trump doesn't know what compassion, ethics, or real goodness is. He has been spoiled all his life. He has a narcissistic personality and only sees things through his lens. He is an evil authoritarian that wants all the power he can get. He is the poorest president we've ever had and that includes Nixon and several others.
I have watched this man grow in power since the mid 90s. It's very scary what he wants to do to this country. He has never been poor or had to live like anything other than a rich man. He has no idea how the poor live nor does he care.
HE IS NOT PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL.

@noni1959........I wonder too. He has said he would let someone else get voted in and then take over too. Who knows. I just hope we live through the next 3 years.

This isn't politics anymore, this is deliberately inflicting misery. During previous shutdowns, no matter how "bad" the president was, he always made sure the SNAP payments were made. Now we have something that is appealing (sadly, successfully) all the way to the SCOTUS to NOT pay it.

Its terrible to see how many people need and depend on these government benefits, I'm praying for America everyday, not only is our country divided but things are only going to get worst before they get better

I know, I don’t know squat about politics, so things must be pretty wild for me to take notice.
I hope everyone gets fed this Thanksgiving, and everything gets straightened out in the Oval Office (is that the White House?) and the extra $2000 would be wonderful but I’ve heard it before and nothing ever happens.
I just work and save as much as I can.

I'm happy you can work and save what you can. Some can't with what is going on in their lives. It would be nice to get a tax break or something, but instead of offering $2K, how about feed them? Let them get their food. Yes, the oval is in the White House.

@noni1959 Thank you for that.
I learn a little bit more about the government every day.
