Instrumentally Yours: Tequila

Hey, I’m out of alphabetical order! I had the wrong song highlighted yesterday, so you get yesterday’s song today. Unlike yesterday’s song, you’ll know this, you’ll love it, and you’ll sing along. Yes, although it’s an instrumental it has lyrics…okay, lyric. You know your part!
Tequila - The Champs
I’ll blame @LooeyVille for the mistake (she’s in Chuy’s at the moment…next table over, we’re throwing chips at each other
)!
No, it was MY mistake. I hope nobody thought I was going to ignore this classic.
This hit #1 in 1958 (knocking Elvis out of the top spot!). It’s closing in on 70 years old, and it’s still referenced all over the place…either the music itself or the shout of “tequila!” at an appropriate (or even inappropriate) time.
Earlier this week the obits list mentioned that Champs rhythm guitarist David Burgess passed away in October at the age of 90. This song lives on.

Yup I remember it well
When it comes to songs and tequila I think of the song by Joe Nicholas (Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off)

I love “Jose Cuervo” by Shelly West, which had a similar theme (“who is this cowboy who’s sleeping beside me? He’s awful cute but how’d I get his shirt on? I had too much tequila last night!”).

@Marilynda1225 — I guess it’s because tequila makes people do funny things.

@rebelann — come visit me, there are a hundred distilleries nearby on the “Kentucky Bourbon Trail.”

Dale Watson always started his song “Thanks to Tequila” by playing this when I saw him live. Fits so well. And after a few tequila shots, people can do any dance they want to do to it, most notably “one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.”

I remember it, and like it, even if I do not drink.

I remember that song. It was from my early teens. Although the melody was catchy, it was never one of my favorite ones. I was an ELVIS fan

@FourWalls Jailhouse rock was released on September 24, 1957. But before that there were several songs.

@FourWalls This post made me ask Alexa to make Elvis sing for me.

Pretty sure some tea-drinking Mormons know this one.

I am familiar with the song "Tequila" but I did not know who recorded the song or that it was released in 1958.

It’s been around forever, and it doesn’t have a “dated” sound to it, so I understand that!

@FourWalls I know what you mean since the song was played on a Domino's Pizza employee training video.

@LadyDuck — I am, too!
Back in the 70s and 80s, though, it was great.

@FourWalls I've never had Tequila; and now that hubby is gone, I won't be drinking on New Year's Eve which is the only time anymore that we both drank.
