Good morning, Mylot friends.

It’s just after 9AM here, and 15 degrees with an overcast sky. We are under a winter storm watch/warning and are forecasted to get 5 inches of snow. That’s manageable, but we still have the 8 inches or snow left from Saturday’s snow. Well, I don’t have the power to change the weather, so I will work around it. I am working on some laundry and plan on sorting through the hall closet. The usual dinner for the son, later today. My neighbor found a small, very cold dog this morning on her porch, up against the door. She picked it up and rushed it inside to warm, and called me. I’m no veterinarian…but in doing rescue work in the past I did deal with animals suffering from exposure. We warmed up the little one, wrapped it in a blanket, and she drove to the university vet clinic. They will be keeping it there and scanning for a microchip, checking for frostbite, and any other problems. Plus, they will try to discover if the little fellow has an owner or ? Neighbor will do follow up to be sure the dog is ok. I’m not one of those people who always function well early in the day but hey…I did help her and we found help for the poor dog. Way,way too cold out there for a pet to survive very long, and more snow coming. If you are in this cold and snow, stay warm and safe!

Poor little dog, I hope it's not a cruel owner who threw him out in the cold. Stay warm, I hope you do not need to go out.

The little fellow wasn’t very thin or dirty. He had snow packed between his little toes, and the underside of him was just caked with snow and ice. We got him warm and dry before she took him. I knew someone at that vet clinic from previous rescues, I called him and he said to bring him right away. I couldn’t leave but the neighbor was glad to take the dog there. It always hurts to think someone could have dumped a pet, I am hoping that is not the case. We hope to be able to stay inside today and be warm, thank you, Anna.

@MarieCoyle - May be the dog escaped during Thanksgiving and got lost. I hope he was not dumped, I feel so sorry for abandoned animals. I did not go out today, we are well at home when it rains.

@LadyDuck Not many people are out and about here. I can tell by the sky it will be snowing soon, and it's dreary. I hope he wasn't dumped, either. We received word from the vet clinic that the little guy is doing well, and they are actively trying to find it's owner, if there is one. No microchip...which is so helpful, I wish it were mandatory to get one. But it is in no danger, is warm and fed, and will probably go to a rescue after a few days. Neighbor couldn't keep it to foster right now, and neither could I. I felt badly about that, but at least we did what we could to get the dog some help and it's warm and fed now.

We had a situation years back now where my granddaughter found a tiny kitten in the fence outside our apartment about this time of year. She brought it in, and we helped get it warm. At one point while I directed her to warm a little milk I cupped my hands and held this tiny newborn in my hands. We kept it until it grew up and we found it a good home. Never did find out who the mother was or how it had gotten there. I have grown up around cats, and my grandmother taught me a lot.

@MarieCoyle .......It took quite a bit of work to get it out of the vine covered fence too. I think the mother cat had hidden it there.

So many people wouldn't have gone to the trouble, and so nice your granddaughter has a heart for animals and brought it inside to be cared for. Teaching children to love animals is so important.

@celticeagle Maybe she was moving her kittens and forgot one? That happens sometimes.

I guess you did your good deed for the day. The dog was happy.I am sure. It's chilly here but no snow expected, but possible ice on Friday..yuk. I would rather have snow.

@MarieCoyle Speaking of dogs, I think but I am not sure this little brown dog belongs to the neighbor down the hill. It looks like one they have and it has been running around on the street in the area of their house. I almost hit it once, and I saw it another time. In fact, when I came home today I reminded myself to look out for the dog. If I see it again, I am going to post a picture of it with the story on Nextdoor.

@snowy22315 Do you have an animal control officer? He or she can pay an anonymous visit to the owner, if the neighbor is the owner, to tell them their animal is in danger. Poor thing...maybe the Nextdoor thing will help.

Snow is always my choice over ice. I hate getting pure ice, it causes way too many problems. Never thought about doing a good deed...I just thought about how cold and miserable that poor dog was. I wish I could have fostered it for awhile, but I just can't right now.

@Tampa_girl7 Most definitely! It's bitter cold and there is a lot of snow here, he wouldn't have survived, I am thrilled he is in a good, safe place.

Poor little dog being all cuddled up at the door. I hope he's just lost and will be reunited with his owner. He's lucky that you and your neighbor were able to help him. When I was growing up my dad had a friend who found a stray dog frozen in the snow He brought him home and warmed him up and he was okay. Since the friend already had dogs my dad took him and he was the first dog my brother and I had. Turned out to be the best dog EVER and he came with me when I got married, had my kids and lived to see almost 20 yrs.

Awe…so many times the pet no one seems to want is the best pet ever!! I think rescue pets are awesome. Every living thing needs a home and some love. Your dog was with you a very long time, what a wonderful story!

How lucky the little dog was discovered before it was too late. Pets here would be unlikely to die in this way. Summer would be more of a worry.

@MarieCoyle You see dogs being walked here on hot days. Their paws must be taking a hammering from hot pavements.

@JudyEv They really can get burned paw pads from hot concrete, too. Poor things.

People sometimes seem to think that anything with fur is well insulated for low temperatures. That is not the case, when it's very cold, they suffer from exposure, get frostbitten toes and feet, and eventually their body temperature goes down so low they die. Summertimes get hot here as well, it's hard on animals, especially when their water source is affected.

We are not as cold as you guys. I am glad you have the experience and connections to care for the little dog.

I am just glad the little guy went to a doorway of someone who cared enough to scoop it up. She was upset, worried that it was so terribly cold there would be frostbite, but there wasn't. I am thankful we were both there to help the dog, thank you, Heather.

I can imagine how freezing it must be over there right now. I’m grateful that where I am, the weather stays warm most of the time, with only occasional bouts of comfortable coolness. That dog you found was truly fortunate to be rescued just in time, before the cold could harm it. It’s a relief that you happened to be there at exactly the right moment to prevent anything bad from happening to it.

I am glad she was home and found the dog, and that I was home to help her. It was so, so cold. I worried his body temperature was just too low as he shivered for so, so long, but he recovered.

My heart hurts for that little dog, and I really hope it has an owner that is trying very hard to find it right now, and has no idea how it got out. I don’t want to think someone did it on purpose, that’s for sure. I sure hope you can keep warm, and stay inside. That’s so much snow!

I hope it has a responsible owner but time will tell. People who dump animals are despicable creatures. But it’s getting help now, in good hands, and they are keeping neighbor informed. I’m just thankful we had a place to take him and he is safe and warm.

Good for you! Wish I wasn’t so allergic to cats and dogs, or they wouldn’t be out there in the cold! (We don’t have any stray dogs in the neighborhood, but a lot of cats…who, of course, are all feral and not happy to get near people. ) It’s supposed to sn*w here overnight; however, they mentioned a “bust” potential if the sun came out. Guess what, the sun’s out!!! Doesn’t matter, I’m stocked up on soup and applesauce and yogurt and all the other things I need for a few days.

I can sneeze my head off around cats in the house....allergy meds help but not fully. I am not allergic to dogs for some reason. Feral cats are so hard to help--almost all a person can do is maybe provide a bit of shelter if needed, and of course some food and water. They don't want to be near people, you are right! It's winter, so it will snow. I am simply thankful it's snow and not ice! There are people out there that get in their cars and push the pedal to the medal on a sheet of ice, and play crash-up derby. They have no sense and I don't like being on an icy road with them, nope.

Glad she found it when she did. My idiots are wanting to be outside. Of course Duke doberman isn't allowed very long at a time. We are predicted to get 2 to 4 tonight

We have a lot of snow on the ground right now. Yes, it's a good plan to keep Duke warm and limit his time out in the cold.

No they shouldn't, but so many people have no heart for animals, and no business owning one, either.
