Sorry I’m late. I did everything backwards today: got all my errands ran, then ate lunch. Talk about being discombobulated! In a way, I guess that’s good, given this month’s mischief. This is a request, and it goes to prove that you should be careful of what you ask for. A couple of months ago, @LindaOH asked me for a “boogie” countdown. I guess she assumed everything would be R&B or disco. Um…no. So, what I’ve done this month is split the countdown in half: the even numbered days will be things that I personally think Linda would like. They’ll be in alphabetical order. On the odd-numbered days (I reserve them for myself because I am odd ), we’ll have what I came up with for “boogie” songs. You’ll see an obvious difference. So Linda will have 15 good days this month and 15 days of “eek, that stinks!” And to start it off…gee, I don’t know, the Davis Sisters were “country,” but this has a muted country feel to it…maybe a holiday present. The Davis Sisters were not sisters, just high school friends. They had one massive hit, “I Forgot More Than You’ll Ever Know.” While it was on the charts, Betty Jack Davis was killed in a car wreck in Cincinnati, caused by an Air Force sergeant who told police he’d fallen asleep. Skeeter Davis (nee Mary Frances Penick) survived the wreck and had a long career, including her 1962 crossover hit “The End of the World.” At any rate, here’s their holiday song, “Christmas Boogie.”

“Normal is everybody doing things the same way,” Frank Burns said in an episode of M*A*S*H. “What about individuality?” Trapper asked. Frank replied, “Well, individuality is fine…as long as we all do it together.”

@rebelann — emphatically no. But you can’t escape the same song by five different people while you’re in Kroger for a few items.

It is fun…and even better because you don’t hear 75 versions of it every hour on a Christmas music station!

I hope that @LindaOH is enjoying the countdown this month. I'm not really into music much so I don't follow this too often but do try to stop in on occasion. I hope you understand.

Because of the car wreck they never got to have a career. Skeeter Davis became popular on her own in the 60s, though.

I remember Skeeter Davis from my teenage years. That's sad about her friend.

Yes, they never got to have a career. The week this was first on the chart is when the wreck happened.

So I learned a bit of music history this time. Normal is just a setting on the washing machine.

Amen! “Normal is just a setting on the washing machine.” The only “normal” I ever like is my medical test result!

Thanks for the shout out. I expect songs like the Davis Sister too. What year was this or did I miss that somehow? The older I get, the more I appreciate songs from this era.
