I spoke with Dr. Dreamy this morning.

My bone Dr. is pretty. So I call her Dr. Dreamy. She called me this morning. There IS a piece of loose something in my knee. It is literally 1 cm around. Of course I am old and have arthritis in my knee, but she said this "object" could roll around and find itself in a place where it could cause extreme pain. I have a phone consult with another Dr. in a couple of weeks. We'll see what happens.

I wonder if you're talking about a bone called the fabella? It's a small bone that our ancestors used to have in the knee tendons that is showing up in some humans now. Here is the article I read: It's very interesting reading, in my opinion.

@DaddyEvil Interesting article. I think it is cartilage that is rolling around in my knee.

@TheHorse I can't say I blame you. Hiking can be hard on the joints.

I hope your knee can be easily fixed with no need of a major surgery.

@TheHorse - Usually to remove loose objects in the knee the most effective treatment is arthroscopy. It's a minimally invasive procedure that minimizes recovery time. Most patients can walk on the same day. I suppose the doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory medications to manage your symptoms temporarily.

Actually,it was. If there were "no problem," there'd be nothing to solve.

I hope the other doctor finds an easier way to put this issue behind you. I have been "saved" by second opinions. One doctor had suggested a stomach surgery and when asked if it was a major one, he said matter-of-factly, any surgery in the stomach area can be termed major. Thankfully, I took a second opinion who put this issue behind me with the "wave of a magic wand", so to speak.

It’s surprising to learn that something as small as 1 cm could already cause so much discomfort. Hopefully, they can find a way to fix that loose part and help your knee improve in the coming days. Do they have a specific name for that little piece?

I don't know if they have a name for it. I call it "garbage in my knee."

That sounds dire having something rolling around in your knee. Hope your next consult has some answers for you. I'm dealing with arthritis in my knees and days like today (snowing) it's really painful. I'm trying to hold off having any kind of surgery as long as I can
