Housing is Getting Weirder

So I have posted several times in the last few months about how Housing has been going downhill and even getting a bit weird. Each year about this time, after filling out our recertification, we get a letter telling us how much we will be paying in rent for the next year and how much Housing will be paying due to our Section 8, beginning in January. We get the letter; I adjust the rent for the next year and go forward with life. Right? Nope. In a few days we get another letter saying that the actual amount they ask for this apartment is going up $70+! Okay. So, I readjust the rent amount in my paperwork for the second time and move on. You'd think that would be the end of it. Nope. Another came today (yes, #3) saying they were extending the amount we'd be paying out until February. Okay. On the off chance that Housing might pick up some of the slack. I won't hold my breath. What really gets me is that the COLA amount we get extra in my daughter's and my Social Security isn't even that much. Go figure. Never any extra. Just barely staying above water. I've just never quite gotten used to this fact of life. The bills just keep going up and up.

I got a letter November 30th telling me to come in for my appointment December 2nd. I call to reschedule because that’s not enough time, and I already had an appointment. She’s like, well, we sent that letter in October, how are you just now getting it? You tell me lady! This letter is postmarked November 25th!

I'm sorry that's happening to you there and hope they get their shiite together and stop doing weird stuff. But that's a pipe dream, in my opinion. All companies are weird anymore. We did our recertification in the first of October and just got the letter two weeks ago telling us our new rent amount. It went down by $30 a month. I got a call from Freedom Care (Freedom Care is the company that gets paid by Medicaid and are the ones in charge of making sure Pretty helps me when I can't see.) this afternoon saying they were adding 45 minutes to Pretty's work schedule and wanted to know when would be a good time to add that time to her schedule. I ask them to hold for a minute while I got Pretty so she could make that decision. The lady on the phone didn't want to talk to Pretty but I laid the phone down and called for Pretty to take the call...So her paycheck will go up by 45 minutes a month now.

@noni1959 Thanks. We were really getting worried when the government shut down. We're still worried trump will do something to screw up either Pretty's paychecks or our housing assistance.

@DaddyEvil I hope it doesn't happen. I know the government can shut down again the end of January. I am a retired federal worker and we were always on pins and needles the end of each fiscal year (September), and at the end of January when an extension was given.

I'm sorry this is happening. It looks like someone isn't proof reading before letters go out. It's so hard to live on Social Security. The raise doesn't even cover the 10% increase in Medicare they deduct from our checks.

We know that feeling very well...though not getting a letter about the amount for an apartment going up a big amount. Thankfully our rent is only going up $1 from what it was last year.
