Chili Ingredient Debate

I’m not a chili with beans, eater. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t eat it with the beans. But, I hate chili made with sausage instead of hamburger meat. My stepmom recently made her yummy chili with sausage, and I choked it down. I also like a dollop of sour cream in it, although my dad likes to put some shredded cheddar cheese on it. What are your favorite chili ingredients?

I always make it with a few types of beans. I use either ground turkey or ground beef. I top it with shredded cheddar, sour cream, and lots of chopped fresh cilantro.

I trust whatever chili you’re going to make is going to be delicious.

@NJChicaa — as Don Henley said, “ True, authentic "chili" does not—I repeat, NOT—have beans in it. Beans are a separate dish to be relished and revered in their own right. When you put beans in chili, you insult both the beans AND the chili.” Of course, you aren’t inviting him over for chili, so it doesn’t matter.

I would try chili you make even though I'm not a beans fan.

Surely not with sausage, I like with more meat than beans and a dollop of sour cream on top.

I would also try chili you make, too. And yes, the more meat, the better I'll like it.

@DaddyEvil - I like the taste of meat, some beans is fine, but only beans is really too much.

Not sure I ever had chili with sausage, but I have had it with chunks of beef and I like that. In fact, if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be real chunks of beef in it as opposed to hamburger.

Gee, I haven’t had chili in ages. We made ours with spaghetti. Now, before you think that’s weird, when we had a chili day at my duty station in Pearl Harbor, they served it with rice.

I love it with spaghetti! But I don’t know if I’d go for rice.

We never have it. We weren't brought up with beans so never cook with them. Our son likes his chili and now makes his own in the slow cooker that we bought him.

I think I'm tired of eating chilies almost every day, but it's my habit, without it I feel like something's missing.

I'm not a huge fan of homemade chili (I know, I'm a weirdo).

I never use anything other than ground beef and although I will eat it with beans I prefer no beans. I like to add some diced red onion (if I have some handy), shredded cheddar, dollop of sour cream and maybe a handful of croutons.

A true Wisconsin chili has pasta in it. Since people come from all over the map to settle here, I've seen chili in many ways even without pasta. My ingredients - ground beef, fresh tomatoes chopped in the food processor, kidney beans, onion, tomato sauce and pasta. I don't usually top it with sour cream or shredded cheese, but it's okay with it.

I make mine with beef or ground turkey and I like cheddar cheese and sour cream on it. Pinto beans are my preference if I put beans in it. A time or two I have put chicken in it and made a white chili with navy beans.
