Odd Question...

I will eat green beans but don't like shelled beans... But, I will also eat beanie weenies and have just asked Pretty to get me some Van Camp's Pork and Beans so I can make beanie weenies... I make them with Polish Sausages (all beef) cut into chunks, add brown sugar, diced sweet onions, olive oil and garlic powder, all slow cooked over medium heat for two hours. Are beanie weenies one of those foods you ate as a kid? Do you still eat them and, if so, do you make them yourself or do you buy them pre-made? IF you eat beanie weenies, do you also eat cornbread with them?

I was not a beanie weenie fan due usually having them served cold at school. That’s where they’d be served, and it never failed they’d be cold. Some foods are just ruined for me if they are cold.

@DaddyEvil We’d get green beans, and sometimes the bean juice would leak into the beanie weenies. Ugh.

@AmbiePam Eww! We had divided plates in school. Nothing mingled with anything else. I prefer my foods to stay separate on my plate if I can manage that. One of my brothers would gross the rest of us out by mixing everything together on his plate. When we'd complain, he'd say it got mixed together in his stomach anyway. Dad told him to quit doing that or eat in another room so nobody else had to see it. Joe started eating in the living room after that.

Eww! I don't want them cold, either. They were usually warm at school but still didn't taste right. I ate the weenie slices out of it and left the beans. Do you remember what they served with beanie weenies at your school? We always got mashed potatoes and I will eat those hot or cold. I really like mashed potatoes!

When I was a kid, I ate fish more often because it wasn't as expensive as chicken, but now fish is more expensive than chicken.

@May2k8 My dad often went fishing when I was young. Sometimes I'd go with him and play along the banks of the river while he fished. I also flew kites when I was young and got kites for Pretty to fly when she was a kid, too. Kites are always fun!

I can't eat fish. I break out in hives/rash if I eat it. Maybe you should start fishing more often.

I don't eat pork and beans unless it's made into beanie weenies. Smoked sausages with hotdog chili sauce sounds really good!

@DaddyEvil When I was a kid big rings of bologny was common. Even though I mostly am a vegetarian I miss decent sausages.

@sallypup I don't remember that but I won't eat bologna. As long as the sausages don't contain parts of an animal I won't eat, they're usually fine with me. (That's the reason I don't eat bologna or hotdogs. I KNOW what parts are in those meats.)

I've never heard of beanie weanies. I don't like the sound of the name for some reason but they no doubt taste okay.

They were a common food item when I was growing up on the farm. Mom made them at least once a month. They taste like barbecued baked beans. I really like them although Pretty hates them.

I don't think I've had beanie Weenies but once or twice in my life. I love pork and beans, and I was always the one to bring my baked beans to all the potlucks I was invited to. I also insist on them with my hot dog. I eat cornbread with my pinto beans. I like all beans except the black.

@DaddyEvil .......I would enjoy that. I wish that many of us lived closer and could enjoy each other's company in real time at some point. I sure hope Mylot stays up for a while longer. I don't know what I would do without it. I don't need a lot of socializing, but I get about the right amount here. You are such a dear person. I sure am glad to know you.

@LadyDuck Yes, you may have "burned out" on eating green beans if you ate them for a long time, just like mom and I didn't want to see gravy anymore when dad kept insisting we eat it every day for breakfast.

They're baked beans with Polish sausages sliced into them plus added veggies. YUM!. Do you like baked beans? You can pretend they're baked beans with extra stuff in them. Ask your mom if she's ever made baked beans and cut hot dogs up in them. Mom used to do that when we couldn't afford other foods. Dip cornbread into the liquid and it's SOOO GOOD! (Imagine Homer Simpson eating his favorite food and drooling over it. ) I can afford other foods but like beanie weenies once in a while. I usually make enough that when I finish the pan off, I don't want them again for a year or so.

@Traceyjayne You're welcome. I don't like what we call "hotdogs" either. They're made from any scraps left over after butchering an animal. I don't eat those! The Polish sausages are made from ground steak and shaped into a sausage skin. YUM! I'll eat those in a bun as a hotdog with sweet relish and ketchup or cut them up into baked beans. YUM again! Cornbread is made from coarsely ground corn and mixed with butter, milk and a touch of sugar and baked in a pan like cake. You cut it into chunks like cake, too. It's really good. You are missing out! The Simpsons is a good show.

@DaddyEvil ah, thank you …..I understand it now. Yes, I like baked beans and I do sometimes have them with sausages. ( you can get baked beans with little sausages mixed together in a tin/can here, but I don’t have those ) My Mom doesn’t eat hotdog sausages …..to be honest she is not that keen on ordinary ones either. I may be one of the very few that gave never watched The Simpson !…..I am aware of who they are but that’s about it. We don’t have cornbread here either ….. Oh the differences in our countries ….
