There is no room for any more hate.

Today, I had a few errands to run. My last one was the pharmacy, who said son's refill was ready. It's a short trip, and in a quiet area, no problems...until today.
While I was in the pharmacy (in line of course, everyone seems to be sick here) suddenly there were sirens right outside and I heard some yelling. Well, I wasn't going to go out to look, never can be sure anymore just what will take place. I took my sweet time, and one of the clerks I know there told me there was someone outside who attacked the Salvation Army person ringing the bell. It was an older gentleman, he was tucked in a little nook between the CVS and the grocery next to it, just minding his business and ringing his bell.
From what I could gather, a young man came up and started screaming at him, telling him he was collecting money for losers and that he probably took most of the money out of the pot for himself. Then he unloaded on the poor old fellow by throwing things at him--he had a screwdriver, a pair of pliers, and of all things, hundreds of pennies in a jar. He used them all to throw them hard. And by a huge stroke of luck, the pliers and the screwdriver fell short of the man. He did, however, get blasted by pennies that were hurled at him. His glasses were broken. He had a cut on his cheek, too.
From what I could understand the young man was chased down by two policeman and arrested. The old fellow was OK except for broken glasses and being upset. The money was intact.
I have to ask myself, what did this young man hope to accomplish with this? I guess he hurled every insult he could think of at the old fellow, saying losers only collect for more losers, etc. It all made me ache for the fellow.
I am tired of hearing about these things happening, and yes, many of them are much worse than this one was, I know. But it's still mean, and it's still hateful.

That’s so sad. No way to fix things anymore, I don’t think.

I sadly think you are right. We all have to be vigilant, and show kindness. There are good people out there, they just get overshadowed at times by haters.

I agree that hate, jealousy, and bigotry among us humans are awful to witness. I just hope people learn to respect each other’s lives so we can all live in peace. If you don’t agree with how someone lives, just leave them alone and let them be. As long as it doesn’t affect your life, let them do their thing, whether you believe in it or not. There’s no need to be hateful toward them.

No, there is no need to be hateful, you are so, so right. If someone is offensive, it's just so much easier to walk away than it is to stay and antagonize them.

@MarieCoyle True, it's easier to evade something that annoys you than confront them and make a scene just to make your point.

They are trying to stir things up and cause more trouble. There is no way I am going to get involved in an argument, the police were taking care of it and there were a lot of angry people. They didn’t need anyone else to join in that mess. The main thing was the man wasn’t terribly hurt and his money was safe, and the angry young man was caught.

That is deeply gross. I have been following the Buddhist monks on Facebook. Their walk for peace is highly moving. It appears that the monks are causing some folks to think and see that others that don't look or act like them are still humans like them.

I think we need a peace and love movement, not a hate and destructive one. What the monks are doing is admirable and hopefully will help us all.

I was just talking about this wild Christmas behavior to a chef at Country Inn the other day. I was simply making a right into their parking lot, and the person behind me just LAID ON THE HORN because apparently I wasn’t turning fast enough. I was like wow, calm down buddy. The parking lot is full of ice. I know for a fact I don’t care about you, but I do certainly care about my car.
We were saying that Jesus wouldn’t appreciate this Christmas madness going on.. everyone seems so angry and rushed.
We are celebrating His birthday. So many people forget that.
So what this guy in your post did up here ^^ doesn’t surprise me at all.
Unfortunately

I know...I'm sorry that happened to you. I wouldn't have wanted to speed through a turn into an icy parking lot, either.
Sometimes, I do get in a hurry. And then often something happens, that reminds me to stop and smell the roses...I would rather share smiles than anger and hate.

Thabks for sharing that news. We can't say anything who's wrong or right for we didn't the background of their trouble.

It was obvious who was at fault. The young man attacked him by throwing the things at him. Why, who knows, but he was angry that the money was being collected for those less fortunate.

I've lived here over 12 years, and seen him there every year. I bet he will be back. I've talked to him before...I don't think he would let hate win.

The bell does not irritate me at all. It's a sign of Christmas, and of giving.
