I'm dreading Christmas

That is sad to admit but it is the truth. I am going to my sister's house on Thursday and quite frankly I'd rather just stay here with the cats. My mother lives with my sister and her family and they are all up in each other's business. Her best friends and another couple are heavily involved in each other's lives too. So I wind up feeling left out and try to avoid seeing them which of course only further isolates me. It is a vicious cycle. Honestly I am still sort of considering bailing. I most likely won't because I just don't want to deal with my mother being pissed at me. Last year I brought my downstairs neighbor along just to force her to be on her best behavior. She just called to see if my neighbor was going this year. I don't know. I have to text her. Ugh. I really don't want to go.

I know you don’t, but I hope you do, and if the neighbor would make it more tolerable, I hope she goes too.

Sounds like you should take the Grinch with you if there was such a creature, Just grit your teeth and stay for a short while and dash back home and rock around the apartment with the cat crew,

I totally understand... I'd just tell them I didn't feel well and stay home. Pretty and I just don't go to family gatherings anymore. She doesn't like most of the family. *shrug*

I actually would take the neighbor or someone. That way, you can see your mother for a bit and come right back home. But this is just me...and as you said, you don't want your mother all hot and bothered and have to deal with that. Breeze in, don't stay long, and sashay out the door...but like I said, you may not want to.

Take the neighbor, if you can, and then the two of your cut the visit as short as possible and go do something fun. Do not torture yourself.

It'll be OK. If your neighbor goes with you, you will have a buffer.

My Christmas won't have any of your dramas I hope but I'll be glad when it's all over and we can get back to our boring 'normal'.

At times I am forced to socialize with a few who are a real pain otherwise. In a bigger gathering I can get lost among the crowd. Hope you will have a good time anyway.

I hope you go; and I hope your neighbor accompanies you. Make your appearance!
