How is your night driving?

Last night I had to go out and meet someone at their house. Of course, it was after dark, and I hate getting out after dark. I just don’t drive well after the sun sets. Plus, I don’t like getting back to my apartment complex at night either. Especially since none of the porch lights in our breezeway work (it’s not the bulbs, it’s the actual light fixtures). I use the light on my phone to get up my stairs. How is your night driving? Do you do it often?

I won't drive at night anymore. I can't see the lines on the road/road signs/turns unless they're lit up. Pretty tries to make me drive after dark and I just refuse.

I’m glad you do refuse. Night time driving is not to be taken lightly. I had a lot of trouble on a poorly lit part of a turn last night.

I don’t like to, more because of the fear of deer running out in the road and drunk drivers than my vision. I’m still seeing well enough to be able to drive, though.

Yes, the deer are an underrated problem. Not many people realize the high amount of deaths when people hit deer. They think only the deer have the fatalities, but it’s not true.

I haven't driven at night in ages. My night vision started getting bad years ago.

My mother’s night vision went bad too, early in life.

I find the other car lights dazzling. I don't like driving at night now.

I hate driving in the dark. I tanned without eye protection for like a year and destroyed my night vision. Streetlights, traffic lights, and the lights of oncoming cars look like fireworks to me. Last week I was driving on the parkway at 6:30am. It was early obviously but also pouring rain with clouds. I couldn't even see the lane stripes. I texted my ex that the visibility was "absolute @ss" and he agreed. He typically leaves after me so I give him a heads up when things are unusual. That morning he had a 6am meeting at work and had already experienced it.

Ever since I hit the deer a few years ago I do not like to drive at night. Neither does Bob. Especially, for him, if it is an unfamiliar place. Of course people DO hit deer in the daytime as well, but if it had been daylight I would not have hit the one I did.

I can very well understand why that would make you uncomfortable, especially with poor lighting. Night driving can be stressful even for people who are usually confident behind the wheel. Especially when visibility is low, every trip feels more tense and tiring. You would have to be vigilant all time. Having to rely on your phone light just to get up the stairs doesn’t help either. It is frustrating when basic safety features like breezeway lights aren’t working. You did what best you could do, but it’s understandable to avoid that whenever possible. I personally avoid driving much at night unless it’s necessary. I try to drive only in familiar routes and short trips, even if I have to drive at night. Take care!
