New Bill for Gas Charges

The gas company is charging us $70 a month for heating. We just got the January bill. It says our actual charges for November-December was $60.73 and we have a balance of +$306.15 before we pay the bill for January.
I qualify for heating help from the government because I'm over 60. They say I qualify for $399 this year but that hasn't been applied to our gas bill yet. They'll let me know when the gas company accepts it.
Overages in our account in May carry over into the next year's gas total.11 people like this

Is it LIHEAP? I qualify for help in my electricity because I’m on food stamps (hopefully angain soon) and Medicaid. I’m sure our vocal resenters of poor people on Mylot will love that I get help. I’m sorry, I mean resenters of poor people who require aid.
I’m glad to hear you’re getting that much coverage on your gas bill. I think mine is $235, and that should cover two months. I barely run the heat, but this month, there were four days of running the stinking air conditioner! I am just SO thankful for the help. From LIHEAP, and from other kind people (cough).

Yes, it is LIHEAP.
Yes, I'm expecting one of them to say something to me about it, too.
With the help in weatherization this summer, I'm expecting more savings during the summer on air conditioning, too.
Thank you. I'll talk to Pretty again... I'm sure you're always welcome to any help kind people can give you!

@DaddyEvil Well, I know one person you and Pretty helped and they really appreciate you. I know that person is grateful and wants to do something for you. You helped that person enough for a lifetime with your care and generosity!

@AmbiePam I know right now we're saving up to buy me a new mattress but we'll see what she says after while.

@DaddyEvil - The only help is a 10% discount in the grocery stores on Wednesday.

@LadyDuck Walmart does that here if you want to go shopping between 6 am and 7 am on Mondays. I'm not even out of bed and showered that early!

@DaddyEvil I think my house is about 1000 sq.ft. I'm on an equal-billing plan, so if it works out over or under the actual usage, it gets all sorted out in the spring.

Is your house small, like ours? We have 750 sq ft and a solid concrete floor in the laundry room. My feeties freeze in there. LOL!
I hope you also qualify for help from your government with heating and cooling bills.

@BarBaraPrz Yup! Same thing here. Except the gas company won't give money back if you've overpaid them here. They hang onto the money and use it for your bills the next year.

We have electric here. I am on their Budget Pay and pay $86 a month. Weird thing is that it was $101 year before last and when I got the bill in August that told me what the new amount would be I thought it was a mistake. I like Budget Pay because it is the same each month and so much easier to budget.

@celticeagle I have no idea. I wouldn't ave remembered what it is here if I hadn't just gotten the letter from them today.

It's called "level pay" here.
I really like it, too!
That's odd. I wonder what changed for you to get a reduction in your bill?

I hope it helps you, all this is getting ridiculous. How about just make fair prices to what people can afford. No, we have to get the most profit and then the government can help you because we are being greedy and unfair. If this government wanted to help people they would stop all these energy companies from being so greedy.

We get help because we're below the poverty line, not because everybody else can't afford to pay their bills.

@crossbones27 I appreciate that but Pretty makes enough "taking care of me" to cover our bills with a little left over each month. Thank you.

Ohio doesn't help by age only by income. And the last time I checked we were only about 900 over the limit.

So that sounds like you are financially good position for your heating this winter. As long as I work I will not qualify for any extra help.

I'm sorry you don't qualify for help with the heating. Even when I was at Walmart, I got help with heating. We were still getting SNAP benefits and that automatically qualified us for help.

Doesn't Social Services there help Senior Citizens with gas during the winter and electric during the summer?
I'm so sorry the government doesn't help you with anything.

I was on a 90 some dollar budget. Now it's gone up to $135 or so. I'm keeping the house cooler than hubby did. He was always cold. He would put his heater on in the summer when I had the air running. Sigh.
