Pretty Added a Bidet

Pretty surprised me when she said she wanted to add a bidet to our toilet. I've never used one or seen one in any in the homes we've been in. I told her that was fine but I was a bit concerned about using cold water for it... Well, she installed it yesterday. It has a small tank that is hooked into the plumbing that heats the water before delivering it where it needs to go. (I still haven't used it and am a little leery about trying it. I believe she HAS used it already.) It also has an air dryer. Do any of you have a bidet? And do you like it?

No, but I hear they’re really popular in Europe.

@AmbiePam Not everywhere in Europe, but in all the Mediterranean countries all homes and apartments have at least one. In the south of Switzerland (where I lived) three years ago a German builder built an apartment complex without bidets. It's empty!

YES of course we have one, we have two, one in each bathroom. All houses and apartments have a bidet in Italy and France.

@DaddyEvil In the UK they do not use bidets, same in Germany, but in most parts of Europe you find them everywhere.

@LadyDuck That's very interesting. Thank you for telling me. I wonder why they aren't popular in the UK and Germany?

I knew they were used more there than here but had no idea how popular they were.

I don't have one. I used to think I'd like one. But now I'm not so sure.

The western world is different from our customs, we even used to only use a single leaf in the past.

I have used leaves when I was camping in the wilderness but really prefer not to do that again. (I only did that once when I was a teenager.)

I'm sorry that happened. I still haven't used ours yet. It's still the same distance from the wall that it was before adding the bidet, though. How did you scrape your knees?

That something most modern houses does have and most hotels too are installing this. It is quite uncomfortable to use at first but its quite convenient having them. It just means a much more cleaner butt and it hits where you need water to clean your bottom.

@DaddyEvil It’s also not very common here especially in the provinces. We use water cup to wash in rural areas too. But nowadays when newer houses are built bidets are part of the toilet accessories. Enjoy that and get used to it. Congrats to pretty that she added that to your bowl.

It's definitely NOT common in the US. And toilet paper and wet wipes clean the bottom just fine.

Not installed, no; however….. I have a Walmart nasal irrigation bottle, which is wonderful…put it in the nostril and push a button on the bottom of the bottle and it pushes the water out. No tilting the head or any messing with a netipot. So I got a second one and clearly marked it “bidet.” Single serving size! No $2,000 plumber!! And you can put the water exactly where you need it!

If I'd known, I would have suggested that to Pretty. I have no idea how much she paid for it but she installed it herself. I offered to help her and she said she could manage.

My son hooks them up to the toilets but I refuse to use them. Something about that shot of water startles me. I may give it a "shot" again once in the house.

@Marilynda1225 This one is just a plastic bar across the back of the toilet under the seat with a spigot sticking out of it. The only "problem" I can see is that if somebody... uhm... splatters, it will make it more difficult to clean. Pretty says she'll clean the toilet now but she's never been the one to clean it before. She's saying she added it so we won't use as much toilet paper and wet wipes. I've used it once and used MORE toilet paper because the water runs where I don't want it to run, causing more clean-up... I prefer the wet wipes.

@DaddyEvil It seems there is no way to get the water away unless we drill a hole in the ceramic. We haven't given up completely on the idea although i think it might be there a while before I was brave enough to use it.

@DaddyEvil Jet sprays we called health faucets in India.which are handheld sprayers attached to the toilet or wall used for the same purpose after using toilet. Bidets are a separate fixture I think

Oh, you use the Asian type toilet. Yeah, a bidet won't work with one of those. It only works with a Western seat toilet. If I tried to use one of those toilets, I wouldn't be able to stand back up by myself.
