Well I’m surprised

The doctor came back and said my calcium level is very low and my potassium is low. They are going to give me some as well as more fluids. If the levels improve it sounds like they will send me back to the apartment. I’m surprised. I was expecting at least a CT scan or ultrasound. Still I’m fine with not having to stay here. I asked the doctor if they have any snacks as the nausea is gone and I’m starving. A tech brought me a turkey sandwich, saltines, Jello (yuck), ginger ale, and a bottle of water. Definitely no fasting tests planned. I get that the electrolytes are low from the events of yesterday but I take a calcium, magnesium, and potassium supplement every day. The potassium shouldn’t be that low the very least.

I think you can just ask if maybe they can do more tests. Sometimes they listen to the patient (not always!)and you have felt badly for a long time now. Did you drive yourself to the ER?

yes I did. The only people who know I'm here are my ex, my neighbor, and the building principal. After missing the 1st day back yesterday for Puke/Poop fest 2026 I didn't want him to think that I was just trying to extend the holiday break any further.

@NJChicaa Make sure you feel well enough to drive when they discharge you...you don't need to get all woozy and sick on the way back home...and then there is those stairs....ugh.

Jell-O would probably go out of business if it wasn’t for the hospital menu. That is weird about your test results, although if you were puking you could have deposited a lot of minerals down the toilet.

Every time I'm here I'm low in Mg and K. The weird thing is that I take a daily Ca/Mg/K supplement (2 gummies actually) because I KNOW that it is a consistent issue.

I wish they’d do a CT scan.

For some reason the supplements aren't enough. I wonder if they will tell you to increase them? Get better soon!!!!!!!

I am glad you received the appropriate treatment and you can go back home. I fell the same about Jello.

I think it was two years ago when Pretty was hospitalized for low potassium. They gave her three bags with a saline drip (each bag took an hour) and then sent her home. The ER doctor suggested getting Pedialyte for her to drink to bring everything back to "normal". We were told that even a mild illness is all it takes for the body to dump vitamins and minerals. I'm glad you're feeling better and hope you don't get sick like that again. (The ER doctor also told me to get an appointment with our regular doctor for Pretty as soon as possible to make sure they (the ER doctors) hadn't missed anything when they were testing Pretty. You might consider doing that, if they didn't tell you that.)
