That Was Interesting!

I was working on notifications when we heard a loud BOOM! and the electricity went out, came back on and went out again. We couldn't see anything wrong at the power sub-station at the end of the block, so that means something happened somewhere else close by.
Checking out the back of the house and across our back yard, we could see/hear that the hospital had started their generator up because their outside lights started coming back on and we could hear a faint chugging sound from their generator.
Pretty called our ISP to find out how long they'd be down and they told her they thought they could have things back online by 4:30 pm. (The electricity went down at 11:45 am.)
Electricity came back on at 1 pm, so that's not bad at all but we still don't know what happened.

Could be anything. One of the apartment complexes I lived at lost power for a week, because someone drove their car into a power pole.

@DaddyEvil The answer's always the same when it comes to FPL. Trees are often blamed for .... everything that goes wrong.

I hate when that happens and you have no idea why. At least it was back before they said it would be and hope there were no more problems

I was happy with how quickly they got it back on. Pretty was asleep so didn't even realize it came back on.
I started the laundry again and everything else was fine. Thank you.

@Marilynda1225 Thanks. Me, too.
I can't use my phone to reach myLot, only my laptop and it needs to be plugged in to do that anymore.

Thanks. Pretty went to bed when they said it would take until 4:30 pm but I stayed awake reading so I knew when it came back on again.

It's always good when they can get the power back on before it gets dark. We lost power recently on a windy day, and they got it back on by 4 or so.

We have candles and flashlights all over the house. A dark house doesn't bother us. Not having internet access would bother us but, luckily, our phones have good, long lasting batteries so we were good.

@DaddyEvil so it may seem a minor explosion somewhere where there were no major lines affected.

@rsa101 It may have been a transformer exploding. The whole city was affected, so it would have to be one of the main transformers to affect the entire city. Those are roughly two miles/about four km from our house.

I was surprised, too. No ball of fire. We just heard an explosion but couldn't see anything.

I am glad they got the electricity back fast. It is very hard to move when there is no electricity, you can't you any gadgets like an internet device that needs power.

Thank you. Our phones have the largest batteries they make for phones and will last up to six days on one charge. I wasn't worried about not being able to go online. We have flashlights all over the house, just in case of a power outage.

@DaddyEvil It's no fun being without electricity unless you are camping. I'm glad they got it going for you.

I will... They shut the power off again this morning between 4 am and 5:45 am. I'm betting they did a quick-fix yesterday and shut the power off again this morning to do a real fix on the system. I'm glad it's working correctly now.

@LadyDuck True... Last time a transformer blew up, a squirrel had gotten inside it and caused it to explode. We don't know what happened to it this time.

We usually have to find out from one nephew what happened. He's a police officer in our city.

I hope you enjoy your weekend, too.

We didn't even drop in temperature in the house for that short a time. If it had gone on for days, we might be cold inside.

Thank you. We lost electricity for almost a week when the tornado took out the power lines a year or two ago. We kept recharging our phones from battery backup until the power was restored. (Pretty kept going online but I just read ebooks downloaded on my phone until the power came back on.)

Thank you. The electric company did fast repairs that day and got the electric back up in about four hours. Later, during the night, they shut the electricity off again to replace the transformer at the main installation in town. (Of course, I was awake when the power went off again... But was happy enough when they brought the power back up by around 6 am, I think.)

Thank you. They shut it off again between 4 am and turned it back on at 5:45 am... I assume they did a quick-fix yesterday and then did the real work on it this morning. At least it didn't really have any side-effects for me.
You KNOW they had me in mind when they chose the time to shut it off again.

Thanks. Yes, it was fixed quickly.
Last time the power went out, a transformer at the sub-station blew up just down the street from us. We could see them replacing it.

I believe that's what happened here. Then, during the night, they turned the power off again and did essential repairs to the system.

I hope there are no more outages. Oh there might be one for the upcoming snowstorm or something (I read in global news) at your region.
