Can you believe it? Two days in a row without baseball! Sorry about that, but these are alphabetical in the first part of the month. The alphabet throws us two actors in a row now! Here’s a fond memory for classic TV viewers. June Lockhart We had all sorts of TV moms, but June Lockhart was out of this world. One of her classic roles was Maureen Robinson, the mom on Lost in Space. She also played the mom on Lassie (trivia: she replaced Cloris Leachman in the role of the mom in the TV show!) Oh, and going back to Tony Geary earlier in the month, Lockhart also had a role on General Hospital in the 80s and 90s! Growing up when I did, I knew her as the TV star. But June Lockhart’s career began long before the little screen. She was in the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol and the classic film Meet Me in St. Louis with Judy Garland. She also had a career on Broadway, where she won the first Tony Award for “Best Newcomer.” In my generation, she was the mom on Lassie (actually, that was my brother’s generation…a little before my time, but I did see reruns), then the mom on Lost in Space. When Bea Benadaret died, she became the “lady M.D.” female lead on Petticoat Junction. Her life was full and rich, in terms of success and longevity. She died four months after her 100th birthday. June Lockhart Born June Kathleen Lockhart, June 25, 1925, New York, New York Died October 23, 2025, Santa Monica, California (natural causes) (age 100) A MeTV salute to June Lockhart:

I remember her on Lassie re-runs as a kid, and of course Lost in Space. She played the Mom roll very well!

She was good, and a trailblazer in some ways. Her characters in the 60s were well-educated doctors!

@FourWalls I remember one of my grandmothers watching Petticoat Junction, and as you said, she was a motherly doctor figure. In that particular time, there were very few lady doctors!

I saw that she did some work on Rem and Stimpy, too! She worked as long as she wanted, and that’s a wonderful thing.

What an incredible life she had. I like to see people die of 'natural causes'; so much better than some of the nasty diseases some end up with.

I agree. Dying because the body wore out at 100 is as good as it gets.

Lassie!! A Rough Collie. See those dogs, ruined our childhood. My father bred and showed those things and as a result we never had a proper childhood. So every time I think of one of those bloody dogs I have a chuckle to myself. At just how messed up my father's priorities were

@FourWalls The first showdog was called Shep. Old Shep and boy did it live till it was old. It arrived when I was a baby and still there when I joined the Army at 16 years old. At home, it ate better than I did

I always thought there was a big difference in the part she placed on Lassie and the one she played on Lost in Space. She was about the same character on each. 100 years old, wow!
