"Snow this morning will become lighter this afternoon. High -9°C. Winds NW at 15 to 30 km/h. Chance of snow 90%. 7-12cm of snow expected." Translated: High 16°F, winds 10 to 15 mph, and 4 to 5 inches of snow... Chance of snow is actually 100% because it's actively snowing and blowing. Oops! The nice radio lady just said "up to 20cm of snow"... that'd be 8". And of course, all schools are closed. Old-timer here: Why, when I was in school... we put on our snowsuits, mom would wrap a yard or two of scarf around our face and send us off to school to walk a mile uphill in a foot of snow... Seriously, though, I don't remember schools closing because of weather. But I'm glad I went out yesterday when it was a mild 4°C and no wind. What a difference a day makes!

How chilly is it at your house this morning? You live further North than I do by quite a ways.

I remember we couldn't get to school because the bus couldn't get through the four feet or so of drifted snow on the road. We went out to wait for the bus, but when it didn't come some of the bigger boys didn't dare just go home so instead they walked the 4 miles to school through the snow to find out whether it was open (it wasn't) and then walked back. But yes a high of -9!

@BarBaraPrz That sounds like what happened in the winter time here if it snowed. Except we'd wait in the house until the bus pulled up in front of the house and then go streaming out to get on the bus. If the bus didn't show up by 8:15 am, mom would tell us there wasn't any school that day and to go in and change out of our school clothes before we could go out and play in the snow.

Our high is 55 F, which is 14 C. I’m sure that sounds pretty good right now.

Our schools did close a lot due to weather but we had so much snow back then. It’s strange how much the weather has changed over the years. We got a dusting last night I woke up to.

When I was in school, unless there was snow already too deep on the ground to keep a bus from making the rounds, we actually went to school. None of this "No school if the forecast called for snow." crap! I remember the bus getting stuck just outside of town bringing us home and the kids that lived in the country (my brothers, sister and I plus a lot of neighbors) got off the bus and walked home. My oldest brother that was on the bus broke trail through the snow and, like ducklings, we walked single file behind him. Now, if the forecast calls for snow and it starts snowing before the bus starts picking up the country kids, school is canceled and the bus takes the city kids back home. Pretty walked the one mile to school several times only for teachers to tell her to turn around and walk home again. (City kids older than 8 years old and closer than 2 miles from school either walk to school or their parents take them. I left for work before time for Pretty to leave for school so she walked.) It is 18F/-8C with a RealFeel of 11F/-12C wind chill this morning. The temp actually dropped another degree F since I took my morning meds at 5 am. (It's 8:25 am now.) We have a high predicted of 45F/7C. I just came back in from checking fluids in our car and adding some antifreeze to the radiator. It's COLD out there! (We were at 70F/21C yesterday.) I hope you don't need to go outside until the weather calms down and warms up for your area.

Sounds like a good day to stay inside. I do remember going to school in deep snow and horrible weather and nope, schools didn't close.

Not unless the boiler broke down and it was -30° in the class rooms... maybe.

Sounds like a nice winter day. lol I'm one of those that does not mind the winter and cold days. Today we are getting a high of 23F (-5C) and sunny but they are saying tomorrow we will be getting 2-3 inches (5-7cm) and come Saturday we are to get a high of 15F (-9C) with high winds.
