NOW you’re starting to worry. If this guy isn’t top ten, then what is?
Oh, come on, you know me better than that.
This is definitely one of the biggest celebrity losses of 2025, and there’s no way I’m not going to honor him.
Robert Redford
Robert Redford. That’s all you have to say. What didn’t this man do? He was an acclaimed actor. He was an acclaimed director. He was an acclaimed environmentalist. He was an acclaimed champion of the independent film makers.
I want y’all to sit down, because you’re NOT going to believe this. Think of his iconic roles: the Sundance Kid, Jeremiah Johnson, Bob Woodward, Johnny Hooker…and yet, the man NEVER won an acting Oscar. Never. He was given an honorary Academy Award in 2002; however, his only “competitive” Oscar, where he was nominated, was won for directing the film Ordinary People. Wowza.
That’s okay. He had something more significant: status. His name meant box office success. His voice meant exposure to causes. And his establishment of the Sundance Film Festival meant that independent filmmakers were given legitimacy.
I truly believe motion pictures, especially the independent film industry, would be completely different if Robert Redford hadn’t happened along.
Robert Redford
Born Charles Robert Redford, Jr., August 18, 1936, Santa Monica, California
Died September 16, 2025, Sundance, Utah (natural causes) (age 89)

He was at an Earth Day event at the University of Illinois one year. I was there for the music.

very unfortunate he didn't get any oscar. remembering how eastwood waited for his oscars, it all tells about the academy. i must say, i've never seen such a beautiful man, when he was younger.
