My Garage got broken into

January 26, 2026 7:21am CST
Oh god what a start to the week Got a phone call about my garage door. Padlock removed. So went to investigate Padlock removed. I opened the door, my bike was still there!! Who would take the trouble to remove a padlock with a saw, and then not steal anything? So brought bike home and will park it here for a while until I suss out what to do with the garage door.

That really is strange but glad your bike wasn't stolen. Certainly would make me feel uneasy.

@Marilynda1225 I don't mind if they do The bike is at home and staying at home just now till I get the garage security beefed up.

I thought when I saw the lock that the bike for sure would be gone. I cannot work out how it was still there. The break in happened at 5am on Sunday morning.. CCTV saw the door opening. Nothing else

Strange. They didn’t take anything at all? Maybe they wanted to padlock?

They broke the padlock So it wasn't that that they wanted

Wasn't there a camera there that recorded the lockbreaker?

No No camera. There used to be, but I think someone stole it

@Ineeddentures Maybe someone saw the incident so that person didn't steal your bike.

Update Someone else's CCTV camera filmed the door opening.

I don't know why people do things like that. I had my storage shed broken into but nothing was missing either. Thank goodness for both of us.

@IneeddenturesThat's what I thought also. My son wasn't as lucky. Someone broke into his storage shed and took a bunch of stuff. Thank goodness he and his wife was able to get some of it back and the two people that broke in it ended up in jail.

It's strange when people do something like this At least if something had been stolen I would know for sure why they broke in

@velvet53 Even if this person was caught he/she would not go to jail here The Police won't follow this up as nothing was taken so I did not report ot

Strange, may be they thought there were valuable hidden inside. If not someone wanted a protected place where to sleep during the night.

My bike is valuable Anna Seems my garage was not alone in being broken into We think that stones were left outside the garage door as a sign to someone with a truck to lift the bike a bit later.

@Ineeddentures - I am sure it is, but they wanted small things to bring with them, not a bike. May be they did not want to stay long and you are right they left a sign for someone who would come later.

@LadyDuck Anyway, been back to the garage, locked it up again, Got a camera on it now, if the person who broke the lock comes back we will see who it is

So glad the intruder didn't take your bike. Could have been someone looking for somewhere to sleep...

@Kandae11 Mind you I do have a nice seat someone would be comfortable sleeping on and stay out of the cold. I think I have a gas canister stove on there and some coffee and milk sachets from McDonalds A nice place to sleep with a coffee thrown in

A bit extreme cutting a lock with bolt cutters I obviously didn't have what the intruder was looking for

Wow, that is very alarming. Maybe the potential thief got interrupted before he could take your bike.

Aye Very strange. Especially given the bike could quite easily have been lifted on to a truck

@RasmaSandra Well no To be honest the garage has been a pain in the butt I might not bother with it anymore

Won't scare me. There were a few garages broken into at the weekend. It's a small town, someone will slip up. And when they do, they will be scared

It's excellent that it wasn't stolen. It it did make me think. So now I am going to build a bike shelter in our courtyard at the rear of the house

Good news is that nothing was stolen. You now need to find out who did it. I think you should have a CCTV there.

A CCTV camera did catch the moment the door was opened But the door opening obscured the view of who did it

Tell me about it. Stones were left outside the garage door. Probably to indicate that the door was open and someone with a truck or trailer would have come back and removed the bike
