The Pharmacy Called

One of the pharmacists called a little while ago and informed me that the prescription delivery they had scheduled for this morning won't be coming until some of the snow is melted off here.
I told her that was okay. Pretty and I both have some extra pills on all our prescriptions because of the way the new-to-us pharmacy is scheduling the deliveries. (They bring our prescriptions every 28 days instead of every 30 days so that has slowly built up extra pills. I'm definitely not complaining about them doing that although I still question why they do it. I know my doctor prescribes 30 pills a month for each prescription. I wonder if they do that so Medicaid pays them more over the long-run?)

Thanks. We used to pick them up, too, but when I can't see to drive, we'd have to wait for days or weeks to get the next supply of meds. That's why we switched to this new-to-us pharmacy. They'll deliver all our meds. (The Walmart pharmacy would deliver everything except the shots I need at times. They won't deliver epi-pens or Pretty's pain shots because of the needles.)

Wow! I can understand why they cannot deliver it. Here both Medicare and Medicaid allows the doctors to do multiple months of meds. I was getting 90 pills of my blood pressure meds. Now for whatever reason the doctor has prescribed 100 pills with 3 refills.

Medicaid here will only allow a 30 day supply at one time. It would be cheaper for them if they allowed multiple month prescriptions but they're afraid somebody will stop being eligible in the middle of a cycle so they'll get pills they aren't allowed to have.

I’m glad they do that so if something happens to that puts them off you’ll have enough. I pick up my prescriptions early just in case something happens. I don’t know your pharmacy’s reason though. Of course, by law, I can’t pick up my pain prescription early.

Medicaid won't pay for a multiple month prescription in Missouri. They're afraid somebody will become ineligible for Medicaid and they would have already paid for some meds.

Thanks. When we were picking up the meds at Walmart, I was stuck in the winter when I couldn't get to them to pick up our prescriptions.

Glad you have extra pills. I take water pills and they put 90 pills in the bottle so I don't have refill often.

It was good of them ring and let you know what was happening with your meds. It’s handy that you both have a few ‘ extras ‘

I am much happier with this new-to-us pharmacy than I was with the Walmart pharmacy. These ladies always let us know if anything happens and call each month after they deliver our meds to ask if we have any questions or comments on their service.

I am glad you have built a back stock, otherwise that would be inconvenient or possibly life threatening.

Glad that worked out for you. I have never used a mail pharmacy and this one I am with now has sent me prescriptions that I didn't need so quickly. But after reading about the possible shortages that can be coming, I am glad I've got the extra. I get 90 days' worth. Actually 100. So that is nice too.
Take care.

Ah, that makes sense. Good thing you and Pretty have some extra on hand - that snow delay wouldn’t have been a problem then.
The 28-day schedule is kind of weird, isn’t it? I’ve heard some pharmacies do that so they sync better with insurance or refill schedules, but it does end up creating little “extra stockpiles” over time. At least it’s better than running out!

I'm glad you are set with your meds, especially in this kind of weather.

I think that is a blessing for sure especially in cases like this where the pharmacy isn’t open when they usually are or if they don’t have your meds on hand and have to order them. I’m glad you guys will not have to go without.
