Today was a bust.

Today my son had an appointment we did not want to miss. The appointment was about 14 miles away. Easy-peasy, right? But the roads aren't good...his appointment was at 9 AM. We left at 7:20 AM. I was nervous about getting him there on time, and woke up at 3:45 AM and couldn't go back to sleep. This appointment was important.
About 5 miles into the trip, yep...a big wreck, all lanes closed. We fought blowing snow the entire 5 miles. It didn't look good, as there was no way to re-route the traffic, too many first responders, etc. (The route looked clear when I checked the traffic route online) and there we sat....so we called. I feared they would put us off for weeks/months, but by a true miracle, they didn't! He has a new appointment this coming Friday at 11 AM!! Talk about breathing a huge sigh of relief and gratitude!
We didn't get home until nearly noon, and home was only 5 miles away. But we are home in one piece, and I am thankful for that. We also have black ice tonight...but we aren't going anywhere!
That was my excitement for the day, and it was more than enough!
I hope everyone who has to drive on bad roads right now is safe and careful!

In the past I have had to drive in snow in Metairie Louisiana in December and it was very dangerous to drive in the snow.

I can most generally drive in snow without an issue. But when it's turned to ice, it gets really dangerous.

@MarieCoyle That is the problem I had when I drove on a snowy road was the black ice.

I ventured down to the end of the driveway today, and the roads in the development didn't look good, plowed and passable, but icy as heck..it is going to be hard getting around once I am ready to drive out of here

I know just exactly what you mean. And some places look clear but are super slick and icy. Be careful when you do get out and about!

@MarieCoyle - He is in pain getting in and out a car, it happened in the past, we walked to see his doctor because walking is the only way his back does not hurt too much. He feels a little better today. I went to the pharmacy and I could get the pills his doctor had prescribed for him.

Oh, dear. I hope he is feeling better now? If he finds he needs to go and can't drive, is there any other way for you to get him there? Uber, etc.?

Oh, I am glad he has some medication that helps. I know when my back hurts, it seems to affect me all over and it's so painful. And it's good that the pharmacy is so close by!

@MarieCoyle That is a shock! It’s always so difficult to get appointments with them, even if your head fall off.
You’re welcome and good luck to your son.

I do my best. I do wish when it is icy and slippery some people would slow down, but they don't. But I will do my very best to get him there Friday morning, thank you.

It was definitely frustrating...just sitting and knowing we were NOT going to make it after all the planning and waiting. But hopefully, Friday will work out fine, thanks, Amber!

This has been a really long and very cold spell here, with more to come. We don't even get above freezing until later next week! So what snow and ice are out there, are not leaving any time soon.

Judy, so do I. The drama of traveling in this is way past being interesting, it's downright dangerous!

I’m so sorry that he has to miss his important appointment. Our roads are fine here, but we don’t have construction cones growing out of the asphalt the way you do.
