We never had debts, not even a mortgage. Our parents told us since we were kids, first you make the money and only after you have the money you spend it.

@LadyDuck Well it would never have crossed their minds to get debt so they waited until they saved the money before they bought stuff

That is how we were brought up as well Anna. I think me and Yvonne were a good match when it comes to money. Her ancestry, common sense with money is on her genetics and I am Scottish

I have balances on two credit cards (one for mattress and the other for furniture) but they have 0% interest and I’m making monthly payments.

@Ineeddentures having no interest is good but I still would prefer not to carry a balance on a credit card.

0 % interest is good. I wouldn't mind borrowing money and not having any interest to pay back

@lovebuglena Well the only way to be sure of doing that is not to use the card

@Ineeddentures We owed my grandparents a lot more, so not sure if we'll be forgiven of it since they passed or if we'll have to owe somebody else in the family eventually... but in the meantime we owe my mother under 100 bucks lol.

Not any more, my stupid village decided to force all of us to hook into the main city sewer system rather than keep our septics and it cost me over $8000 to do that, of course that lead to other problems and now I'z got debt

@Ineeddentures Yeah I didn't want to dip into my 401k either, put down $7500 and financed 21k for a 5 year loan

@BACONSTRIPSXXX 401k is a considerable amount. You can pay back the loan with what you earn here!!

Unfortunately no, but we're working on getting it paid off and such. Although thankfully we're managing and it's not as much as some others in my opinion.

I'm glad that you are managing your debt and I hope you can get it paid off. I never ever thought about how my debt compared to debt other people had. I would be curious to know though how much debt certain people had back then

My goal is to be debt-free. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was forced to take on debt, but I am now committed to settling all my obligations. Once cleared, I do not intend to borrow again. This situation has been humiliating, as I have faced judgment from others. It was never my intention to be in debt, but I was dealing with a major crisis that left me with no alternative.

I, too, am debt free and I also don't like to be burdened by debt. But, online, you will see a lot of videos stating that the rich borrows and borrows because debts are tax-free. But, I guess, they can afford to be in debt.
