One of the liveliest dances, the can-can, is of French origin and usually performed onstage by four women. The dance is known for its high kicks and became popular in Parisian dance halls, particularly the Moulin Rouge in Paris, which is known as the birthplace of the modern form of the can-can. Without leaving the states you can see the popular Rockettes dancers doing their high-kicking version at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

This dance was very naughty in its time. The movie Moulin Rouge was a wonderful piece.

Wow! Even when I was younger, I couldn't do that! (I could do the splits but not the acrobatics for the male part of that!

You’re certainly on a dance kick!
I loved seeing the Rockettes at Radio City. My brother’s second wife’s mother was a Rockette, and so was a secretary in one of my schools. My daughter in law has a friend who is a Rockette. My granddaughter got to see her in a show and then was allowed to go backstage and see the costumes, makeup area, etc. I can barely lift a leg to get into bed!
Oh, and I saw the Moulin Rouge, but wouldn’t watch a show.

@DianneN never wanted to be a Rockette even living in NYC. I have been to the Moulin Rouge on the outside, not inside. Today my last dance post and then I will figure something else out.

I am impressed with the women who do the Can-Can dance which has been seen in the Warner Brothers cartoons in another era.
