My husband and I went to visit his brother and wife this past Saturday. While my sister-in-law and I were alone she was talking about my husband’s brother being extremely germaphobic. She told me that he opens a new bar of soap every time he showers. He throws them in the trash when he is finished bathing. He refuses to use it more than once. He feels it is too germy. She wanted to know if my husband does this too ? I told her no and that this was the first time that I had heard of anyone doing this ? I told my husband about the conversation and he was just as surprised as I was. His brother didn’t always do this. Have you ever known of anyone doing this ? It would add up cost wise for sure.

But... Soap is self-cleaning. It's got a high pH and low moisture content, germs can't live on it and are washed down the drain while using it.
Have you suggested they try buying liquid soap, instead? I love my grapefruit shower gel. Just squeeze some out of the bottle onto your clean washcloth and close the bottle up again. No waste and it's ready for the next time you need it.
That sounds so expensive, too.
I've never heard of someone doing that before.

He doesn’t know that she told me. She said she uses the liquid, but he won’t. It is really bizarre behavior.

Perhaps there are tiny bars of soap for him to use only once, that way it wouldn't be such a waste.

I have never known about anyone doing this and it sounds like he might need help of some kind, I mean that is a lot of money wasting with the soap thrown away and all,

I agree. It is a real problem. I guess he doesn’t see it that way.

They have been married for 7 years and she said he was doing it already when they got together. She already suggested liquid soap and uses it herself. He prefers the bars. It is a very odd thing.

Nope. That seems to be a psychological problem. To save on throwing soaps, he should just probably use a liquid one.

I have never heard anyone doing that. That is wasteful and throwing money away.

I wash my hands a lot too. Throwing the soap away is just so wasteful and expensive.

That seems like a new thing he has developed as your husband doesn't know about it. It seems like some phobia Disorder and he might need some help. Using those pump liquid soaps would be more economical .

I never heard of that and it does sound expensive as well as your BIL being very much a germaphobe.

I’ve never heard of people doing that particular thing. I wonder if he could get liquid soap in a pump bottle. That way he could wipe the pump part so it was clean every time he used it.

Wow, that's actually a mental illness, and he must be low-level stressed-out all the time. Maybe he can get some therapy for that, especially if this is new behaviour, because it might be in response to some new stressor in his life. In the meantime, maybe he could use shower gel instead?
