Are you careful where you step?

If the photo grosses you out, don’t look. I am getting ready for my morning walk before it gets too hot.
No matter where I walk, I always keep my eyes opened wide for snakes, bikers, cars, and dog poo that someone neglected to completely clean up.
I never thought about roadkill, but glad I avoided stepping on this poor lizard of some sort.

Spring will be here before much longer. We have a tiny lake( I consider it a pond!) and then a real lake, all within sight of my back yard. We literally have hundreds of Canadian geese that are either here in my area, walking along the yards and sidewalks and street,or flying to another lake that’s about 6 blocks away. Did you know a goose can poop every 20 minutes? I can honestly say I believe that! Our sidewalks are cleaned daily. If you are walking in the grass, you look first!!
I enjoy the families of babies and the geese don’t bother people-except for the presents they leave for us!!

I never heard that geese poop so often. At one of the schools I taught at, the geese made it impossible for the kids to have outdoor recess one year.
We have seen geese attack students who hung out by the lake at my husband’s university and by the pond near us in CT. They can be mean if they have their babies around I guess.

@MarieCoyle Nice that yours are used to people and the maintenance guy helped to protect them. No one wants to see an innocent animal ever get hurt. Well, except for some lunatics!

The geese here appear to be very used to people. One year, a goose kept trying to make a nest in my flower bed in the front yard. The maintenance guy helped me to encourage the goose not to build there (he put a little fence up for a bit) because that flower bed is so, so close to the street, and I am sure the babies would not have survived there. She went off to the nearby lake and had a nest there instead.

Oh, poor lizard. I keep an eye when I walk just to make sure I don't step on poop or whatever gross there maybe on the road.

@pitsipeahie you are so right! I agree with everything you mentioned and should include unlevel ground, depressions, loose pebbles, rusty nails…. The list goes on, because we don’t want to fall and get hurt or worse.

@DianneN Correct! That’s why shoes worn outside never come inside our house. You never really know what kind of dirt or germs are on your shoes from all the places you’ve been and walked through. I also carry a small pocket flashlight with me in case it gets dark outside so I can still see where I’m walking. Besides, it’s also basic safety when you’re out and about to always be aware and mindful of your surroundings.

Dog dirt.
I stood at my door and watched in horror as a guy stopped and let his dog empty the contents of its bowels in front of my neighbours door
I told him to pick it up ,
He laughed.
He wouldn't have been laughing though when he had the police at his door
My neighbours door bell camera caught the whole event and the police even showed him the footage
The community warden who attended gave him an on the spot fine of £100 and a notice to attend a re- education class.
The council actually provide a bin service and poop bags
They gut won't let his dog do that again and not pick it up

Probably walks his dog another route
I just hope he didn't punish the dog.

Ewwww, was my reaction when I saw the photo.
Yep, we always have to be careful and watch our step.
I rarely walk on the streets. So fortunately no surprises like that to step on.

I feel sorry for the lizard. It might shock you but circumstances being what they are, I have not left my four walls since the beginning of last summer.

i generally look at the ground to see if there are red ants or lizards. I our city lizards walk on the ground also. There are less greenery in urbanized setting so insects and birds of green areas are hardly seen

Yes, I watch where I walk. I learned that from hiking…even on paved walking trails you can find a visitor.
We have a lot of goose poop around the lakes and streams here.

Poor lizard is right! he certainly looks like he was run over multiple times. I do look where I'm walking but more so that I don't fall.

And that’s not normally a busy road. We have two houses being built on our street, so the trucks come and go on that street I assume.
They say not to fall as we get older. Hubs will be learning how to fall correctly. Let’s all hope we don’t fall in dog poo.

Never thought to look out for something like that either...but this is a good reminder.

Same as you, I walk looking everywhere to be sure there are no dangers where I put my feet. Poor lizard!
Lol!
