Our fridge has a Sabbath Mode

Our fridge broke down a while ago and we’ve at last bought a new one after a bit of a battle with the insurance company. It has a feature called the ‘Sabbath or Shabbos Mode’. We’d never heard of this before but the feature caters to the needs of observant Jews who wish to adhere to traditional laws. Such laws include restriction of certain activities on the Sabbath which lasts from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. Such restrictions include turning on electrical appliances, adjusting temperatures or engaging in working. If we activate Sabbath Mode in our fridge, the lights and sound alarms will be disabled; the fridge will maintain a preset temperature and the defrost cycle will be temporarily halted. Not being Jewish, we won’t need to use the Sabbath Mode but I’m sure it could easily influence some. Did you know this about fridges? The photo is mine.

Just now
I am sure that the fridge sold here (as well as those sold in Switzerland) do not have the Sabbath mode.

That's new to me, I haven't encounter such kind of mode in our fridge. And we kind of unplug the fridge when it needs to, especially if we are away from home in a week.

Haven't heard of that before and I don't think that fridge is available here as there are no known jews residing in this country. Our fridge has a vacation mode though.

I understand the Sabbath laws many Jewish people observe, but never in my wildest imagination did I imagine such a thing existed. Oh, the things people invent!!
