She’s Devastated

Does anyone remember me talking a couple times about my best friend who has a rescue? You might remember the city tried to close her down. She had her hearing last year, and won her case. She rescues dogs, cats, and goats.
This year, the city did it again. Unfortunately, this year she lost her case, and she has until the the end of April to get rid of all but four of the 36 dogs she cares for. My best friend is devastated. We both know some of those dogs will not find homes once confiscated. On a side note, she can keep her 15 goats, and six cats.
She is taking it so hard. I’m going to be frank; she’s better off without all of those dogs. She is so far in debt keeping her rescue open it’s not funny; she makes good money being a nurse, but her finances are a mess. Now, the dogs don’t deserve to be taken to the pound, and that is sad.
She knows already which four she’s keeping, and she’s desperately trying to find homes for the others. I’d love to take one, but Sadie doesn’t like other dogs, and I also can’t afford another one.
It’s just too bad.

There comes a point when we have to realize that we can’t save every animal on the planet (or every person), and just do what we can. I’m so sorry she lost her case, but it may be for her best in the long run. Sometimes we get so focused on helping others that we forget ourselves. (And I’m speaking from personal experience there.)

I'm sorry your friend lost the case but, if she's struggling financially trying to care for all the rescued animals, then it's probably for the best that she lost the case. I understand she doesn't want them to go to the pound but there's not really an alternative or she would have already done that.
I hope things work out for her.

Your loving friend really took on a huge job. I'm sorry and I hope things work out for the best for one and all. The local Rescue woman over here amazes and worries me. Imagine driving four hours or more through freaky heavy traffic with dozens of cat carriers in your vehicle! Getting up at 4 am and heading out.....How can a human keep doing that? I admire your friend and my local person deeply but yeah, worry.

@AmbiePam That's loving dedication. The entire mess with animal populations in America could depress me to my core if I let it. Now I'm hearing about more people advocating spaying cats who are pregnant cause if you don't, the cat gives you more kittens with no homes. I don't like aborting like that but do what otherwise?

I can understand the frustration and disappointment she is undergoing. I pray she gets some other arrangements for the dogs.

Working in rescue is heartbreaking. Your heart is in it, you bring home the desperate , the ones no one wants, to try to give them a chance. I remember how completely buried I became after Katrina hit and all of the animals came north as they ran out of places to take them. It was so hard...I feel sorry for your friend. Honestly, it hurts so badly to realize that you can't save them all, it's just not possible. And it's such a bad time right now for pets in general. They are being relinquished at record rates right now as people are struggling to feed families. Give her a big hug from me, please.

Maybe she can take them to other rescue organizations or a no kill shelter at a minimum. That is really hard..but it sounds like she can't afford to keep it open anyway. Maybe she could regroup..get a grant orFacebook Go fund me or Nextdoor funding or team up with another rescue group..and try to re open under a different name.

I would quickly become homeless if I had 15 goats and 6 cats.

What a pity. I feel sorry for the dogs that can't be kept. There is a limit to how many animals you can keep financially though. Poor friend.

That’s heartbreaking. If I were there, I would adopt them, especially when I’m financially able to do so. I really hope they find loving and responsible homes.

Put horns on the dogs and say they're goats?

I hope your friend can find homes for the dogs. But, as you said, she's probably better off if she's in that much debt.
