Should I be offended?

So if you’ve been reading my posts you know I’ve been having trouble with dizziness. I asked my dad to go with me to the doctor this morning to help me down the stairs, and then to get into the doctor’s office. So, he did. I’d say I just grabbed his arm a few times, but was overall, okay to walk, pause and lean over, and then walk again. When he took me home he wouldn’t help me get to my apartment. So I walked, paused, walked, and so on all the way up the stairs. It was an ordeal! I don’t really feel offended that he didn’t help me, but it seems so contrary to his normal behavior. After all, he was telling me to go to the ER as well. Should I be offended?

Concerned is what I would feel. Is it normal for your Dad not to help you up stairs given your situation?

He came up this morning to help me down the stairs, and has always been pretty willing when I ask him to do things.

Maybe he had somewhere else to be, or maybe he thinks you depend on him too much. I would ask him. He will probably just saying something like "You seemed like you were doing OK."

Maybe he thought you could do it on your own even if it was a bit hard. What did your doctor say about it?

I think that was it too. The doctor wanted me to go to the ER. I told her if I wasn’t better tomorrow I would go.

Your dad should have helped you back up; perhaps he had something important on his mind. Anyway, so what did the doctor say?

She wants me to go to the ER. I told her if I still felt badly tomorrow I would go.

Can you ask your Dad why he acted like that?

I’m going to to. It’s been rattling around in my brain so I might as well ask.

@AmbiePam I would just ask him. After all, you counted on his help.

It seems your father doesn't want you to depend on him in every thing. Sometimes be strong and do things own your own.

I didn’t want to fall flat on my face. I had a very close call trying to get up my stairs.

@augusta123 I’d already fallen so I think it was serious. However, I think if I had made a big deal out of it he would have decided to help me after all. I chose to try it by myself. And, oh, did I get close to face planting.

@AmbiePam If the case was serious I think your father would have helped you. Was the case serious?

No, being offended is no fun and really a pretty useless thing to be. I would be concerned that something is up with him.

Maybe your Dad was tired. I am glad you made it back up the steps.

Oh, that is strange. I hope that he wasn't feeling tired or run down himself. Very out of character for him.

Maybe he felt like you didn't need to go to the ER you didn't need help. He could just be worried about you being so stubborn. It doesn't sound like him

Maybe he thought you were all good since you managed to go to the doctor already

That doesn't sound like your Dad at all. Maybe if you only grabbed his arm once or twice, he thought you weren't as bad as you were making out. These things can niggle. I hope you're able to get it sorted.
