Are you honest with your doctor?

I remember hearing a report that stated most people weren’t completely honest with their doctors. I remember thinking that was so silly, and I couldn’t imagine what the big deal was. Fast forward to last Monday when I told my doctor something I was doing, that I really had had no other choice but to do.
And she got upset. And the fact that she got upset at me made me upset at her. And I suddenly understood why people aren’t always honest with their doctor. What about you?

I try to be as honest as I can, but yes, I know what you mean. No one likes being scolded.

I would say I am 95 percent honest with the doctor. If I do misrepresent about anything, it is because I don't want to deal with it. It doesn't benefit anyone to lie to the doc.

I am honest with the doctor, but I do not get scolded. Sometimes I get "suggested" but in general she thinks I am pretty smart and we work together as a team.

@ambiepam I only tell them what I think they need to know and nothing else. Having said that, I haven’t spoken to a doctor in years. But now that I think about it I told a lie to the ER doctor during the big kidney stone incident of 2006. He decided to give me morphine for the pain once he was satisfied that it really was a kidney stone, and after giving me the tiniest amount the pain disappeared altogether and he asked how the pain now was on a scale of 0 - 10. I lied and told him it was still up at 10 and getting worse so that he’d give me more. No way was I letting him deprive me of that morphine.

Like you, I am usually honest with my doctor. There are some things she just doesn't need to know. Now, saying that, I have sent Pretty out of the exam room and talked with my doctor about things Pretty doesn't need to know and then bring her back in when I've finished. My doctor talks around the subject, without telling Pretty more than basics about the medication she's giving me for the problem at hand. (Pretty looks the medications up later so she actually does know what my complaint is/was about without me having to tell her.)

I try to be honest with them. I have only had one get upset with me and it was my obstetrician. He wasn't happy when he learned I was riding horses while pregnant

Right now if, unfortunately, I needed a doctor, after he had heard how long I did not have a medical opinion and how I take no medications I am sure that he would assign me at least 4 medical problems and goodness known how many medications and then I could just do away with myself because I could not afford any of it, Thank you very much but I will just keep away from the docs and jsut slide away quietly one day God willing.
