Do you eat functional foods?

I feel like functional food and drinks are all the rage right now. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, an example is whole healthy foods like fruits and veggies, but also like whole grain bread enriched with B vitamins. Or yogurt with probiotics or prebiotics. You know what I mean? You can usually count on paying more for those items too.
Are you into that? I eat the yogurt with probiotics, but that’s about as far as my functional food foray finds me.

LOL---I don't pay that much attention. I try to eat healthy, but that doesn't always work.

@AmbiePam I know, right? Almost like everything--except being saved from sin by Jesus.

I have thought for a long time that people are completely obsessed with protein. Facts are that most of us eat at least the required amount. I know some people need a bit more than others do.
I do agree with you that it's complicated. Everything seems to be enhanced, will promise to spike your protein, or help you drop pounds, or whatever. I just use common sense at this point.

I never heard the term "functional" food before but I do try to eat healthy. Don't know if that's considered functional but I have been trying to increase my protein so I bought pancakes and waffles that have protein along with some protein bars. Don't know if these are the healthiest of choices instead of eating real meat but guess we'll see.

@AmbiePam MIlk is a good choice, and easy. Not full of extra "stuff". My primary wants me to get some extra protein but says not the drinks and bars. For me I think that is a good choice, because I treat the bars like candy or a treat.

I just eat good , natural food ….im not sure I’m keen on anything being added even if it is vitamins etc …. You should be able to get enough of what you need by eating healthily and having a varied diet.

Never heard of that, but I don't really eat those kind of foods. Just eat what I like and supplement with a multivitamin. Though I know those probably aren't enough, but I don't see me ever eating fruits or veggies lol

I tried the yogurt once. Not as good or satisfying as plain Greek yogurt, which also has probiotics. That is what yogurt is. If you buy unflavored Greek yogurt and flavor it yourself you get a lot of protein without so many carbs. If you can find it in stock Better Goods plain Greek yogurt is at a great price. It does not stay on the shelf long. The flavors are good as well, but for my purposes plain is better. I have a particular brand of bread I buy that is high protein and high fiber but tastes really good. All of those foods are yummy, fresh fruits, and veggies, etc.

Sometimes, that is why I got the Kefir. Generally, I like yogurt though. Mushrooms actually fit the functional food category..not a big fan, but they are good in certain things.

It's because of the social media influencers promoting healthy lifestyle and all! I see them everywhere too and my sister is into that.

I have tried hard to make and serve balanced meals for myself and my family for years now. I do not buy enhanced items with probiotics, extra protein, etc. in them. We can eat fairly healthy without spending extra money, for the most part. It's the fresh produce meats now that are about to price themselves off the menu to many.

I don't know... Maybe, I just eat whatever is in the fridge or everything that my mom's cooks.

I have no idea what that is, either. My guess is no, I don't. Yogurt naturally has probiotics (and calcium), so I eat that, but $15 bread when $2 bread will fill me up just as well? No thanks.

I have a whole new diet that I'm on for the kidney disease. No whole grains, no dairy, no processed foods, etc.

I try to do the 14-10 intermittent fasting and eat whatever I like during the 10-hour period that I can actually eat. Whole foods or functional foods are great. Lately I'm trying to focus on high-protein and high-fiber meals. I need to build muscle mass for my aging bones.
