Since I knew this song would be along, I have waited until now to congratulate Phil Collins on his solo induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had a big hit with this song in 1982, but we’re in 1966, not 1982, and that means we’re celebrating with the original version of this great song.
You Can’t Hurry Love - The Supremes
Yeah, how do you go wrong with these ladies! When you think of 60s soul, The Supremes are one of the first acts that come to mind. That Motown era was magic.
And, of course, the magic faded: inter-band animosities, the departure of the songwriting team of Holland/Dozier/Holland from Motown over songwriting royalty underpayment, and even the black community complaining that they weren’t “black enough” as R&B music became grittier in the late 60s all led to the implosion of the group.
Of the classic era Supremes, only Diana Ross is still living. Too late to make amends now, sadly. But at least the music is still here, and still as sweet sounding as ever.

I remember listening to the music of the Supremes on the radio. Too bad that the group broke up due to the departure of the songwriting team and that the members of the group went their separte ways.

Those arguments in the bands are pretty bad. Chicago had that when they were inducted into the Hall of Fame because Peter Cetera was a jerk about it.

@FourWalls That is true since a lot of artists are known for getting into fights off stage.

@FourWalls Was Motown established as Motown by that point?

@TheHorse — oh yes, it was going strong then. The mid-60s would have been the heyday for Motown.
