I Have Cataracts

I’m only 45, and my eye doctor last week informed me I have the very beginnings of cataracts. He also said I’m years and years from needing to do anything about it, Whereas, my dad is almost 71 and has no sign of cataracts. Incidentally, my mom died at 55 with cataracts that probably would have had to be taken care of in the next five years had she lived and something could have been done. It’s nice to know I have coverage at least. I feel sad for people who can’t afford to get their cataracts removed.

They are slow growing, but you, yourself, will know when it’s time to have them removed.

I have had cataracts for maybe 10 years. So far, the doctor says it’s not time yet. Glad it isn’t time for yours!!

I have some too, but I don't anticipate having to do anything for years and years.

When Pretty and I got new glasses in January, the eye doctor told me I have the beginnings of cataracts, too. I'm several days older than you, though. I hope mine don't grow fast enough to need surgery before I won't care anymore. Good luck with yours.

You might never need them removed. Some are very slow growing

My eye doctor says he is in no hurry to remove mine, but that most people do eventually get them. Mine have only been detectable about two years, and I am almost 73.

I remember my grandmother suffering from cataracts but fortunately she had coverage and had it removed. She and my grandpa were US citizens from LA City. If they had lived here it was my mom who would have paid for the removal.

You have a very good doctor to find those so early. At least you have fair warning that they are there, and you can monitor them.

Cataracts usually grow slowly, so maybe you won't need them removed too soon. When I had them removed many years ago, I didn't need glasses any longer which was nice. Of course, I use readers now.

When I had a cyst on my eyelid a couple of years ago I had to see various eye specialists and I asked if everything else was OK, they shocked me by saying 'Just the usual cataracts' - WHAT?? Like you it's just the beginnings; I guess it's the result of spending a lot of time outdoors in the sunlight. I'm trying to remember to wear sunglasses now.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with that. I don't know what something like that would cost to take care of

My mom had the cataracts surgery a few years ago and it seemed it's a minor surgery as she could go out of the hospital next day. So please don't feel worried to it, it's an easy case and it's not something serious.

I had surgeries in both eyes for cataract. I had it when I was over sixty five. I am glad I am without glasses after the surgery. I had them for forty plus years.
