A knotty lampshade

Have you ever done macrame? I haven’t but I’ve often admired it. I thought this was a macrame lampshade but now I've blown the photo up I can see it's made of beads of some kind. The lampshade in the photo was in the Nungarin Hotel. I thought it was well done but such items are great collectors of dust. So much of that old hotel had a thin film of dust over many of the surfaces. I’m sure they don’t have too many staying there overnight although the bar would do a steady trade with locals. It's a pretty cute lampshade though.

Yes, I took a class at the local library not long after high school was over in macramé. I enjoyed it but can't remember some of the steps now. That lampshade is what would be called a "dust catcher" here and would be terrible to keep clean. Not something I'd want in my house.

I wouldn't want it either. I can see it getting full of cobwebs very easily.

@JudyEv Oh, yeah... I used to have some macramé plant holders out on our front porch at the last house but got tired of cleaning cobwebs off of them every morning when the sunshine let me see where the spiders had built homes during the night.

I haven't done it, but it was very popular in the 70's.

Like everything, after a few years, the craft world turned to something different.

Me wither. It would quickly get full of spider webs I think, not to mention dust.

It's neat, but I would worry about the beads getting too hot. Maybe they are ceramic.

Those kind of lampshade exists here but it'll be mostly made of rattan that intricately woven. Mostly seen in beaches guests houses or café.

Yes, that is big draw back from using these. Dust. I used to use alot of the plant hanging macrame. Never tried to make them.

I never did macramé, but my maternal grandmother did. This is not macramé, but it's pretty.

I can see where it would be a big dust collector even though it's pretty & unique. I hate dusting as it is so this would not be something I'd want to own

That is very cool and cute, too. I helped my sister do a macrame plant hanger long ago, but I didn't get into it. I wish now that I had, it was fun.
