I'm Almost Sorry I Mentioned It

My wife and I, and my sister and brother-in-law will all be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary next year. Their anniversary is in August. Ours is in May. I was thinking with the wife we should go somewhere special for that one.
20 is a bit of a milestone, isn't it?
I got to thinking about it. We haven't done a family vacation for at least two years. Maybe we should all get together and run off somewhere together.
Last night we talked about it again and they are suggesting some pretty elaborate, expensive places. I want to go somewhere special, don't get me wrong, and it is a special occasion, don't get me wrong there, either. But every time they suggest somewhere it's got to be somewhere that costs thousands of dollars. I'm talking like potentially $6k-$8k.
I know we'd have fun. We always do. And it is extra special of an occasion. But come on. For a week? My entire annual camping budget sits around $3k a year, and we have a ton of fun with that.
I don't mind spending somewhere around $4k, even if that floors me just a bit. It's not like we don't have the money, but that doesn't mean I necessarily want to spend it. Not on one thing.
That's $4k all in, by the way.
We have a year to figure it out, and if history serves me, I will be bound to spending more than I want to no matter what inputs I offer. So, that's a year for me to creatively finance things as well to reduce actual out of pocket spending.
But damn it. Here we go again. I'm almost sorry I mentioned it! lol

Yes. I do. And I'm pretty creative about making sure money doesn't come "out of pocket." I have a few underlying stocks I can sell covered call options contracts on that will probably generate the needed money, and then some. It still irks me, though. Those premiums could go into fueling more investment and increasing dividends. But I am happy to be able to "figure things out."

Time to start looking at deals. What about a cruise? They can be relatively affordable, fun and exotic.

@porwest Just throw it out there as an idea..or if they mention going to a certain place..find a cruise that goes there. That is what I would do..of course no go for a landlocked destination.

Perspective is everything. Even $3000 per year sounds like a lot. Get those financial juices flowing and find the fun.

You have enough time to save up for your trip. I don’t think your wife will take no for an answer lol. What she wants she gets…

Since you have a year to plan I bet you can come up with a vacation everyone will agree to without breaking the bank (so to speak). A family vacation to celebrate milestones is definitely worth a celebration,

I know I travel a lot but I find all the bargains and discounts and loyalty programs. The cruise I’m on now was free fare but I had to pay taxes and fees
