Heyyy, fam! I moved from Philadelphia to North Carolina 30+ years ago and have not regretted it for a minute. Come on down! You can drive to Disney World from here and hit Charleston and Atlanta on the way!

Nowhere is perfect, but thumbs up for a big increase in salary.

As I always say, you have to go where the money is. And if the cost of living is cheaper and you can stretch that money further, even better.

My parents retired to the Carolinas. It's different. I'm a tri-state girl. I like civilization. My parents are somewhat enjoying their retirement down there, though. Once again, I said retirement. People seem to think that it's much lower in cost than up here. It used to be, but with gas and other things there's a balance. The gas in S.C. is a little bit lower than N.J. but N.C. is maybe a little closer to N.Y. maybe P.A. Also, the taxes on certain things are different. As far as I know, in S.C. you're taxed on your car every year which is ridiculous. I don't know how you do it in Connecticut but in N.Y. and N.J. we just have to pay low registration fees each year. I'm not sure what N.C. does for cars. I also like the change in seasons up here. The snow can be a lot sometimes, but we deal with it and keep it moving. I've had family and friends move down south in the past and were happy with the choice then. Now they're complaining that the costs aren't much different from up here anymore. Also with climate change, the weather hasn't been that different from what we've been having up here. I don't like the heat too much. But if you're gonna have a nice salaried job, then go for it if it's what you'd like.

It sounds like you just need the job to be offered to you. Congratulations, that would be a huge decision to consider. I remember my husband had the opportunity to relocate when our son was 16 or 17, but he got so upset at the thought of not being able to finish his high school years at the same school, and when I looked at the housing costs, he decided not to accept the position. But that doesn't apply to you, so good luck!
