I really want to update here with what we know, and I desperately want to get some sleep. Since March, Bob has been on two strong antibiotics ( one week of each) to treat UTI's. In recent years the approach has gotten more relaxed. No fever, no antibiotics. Instead of 14 days when on antibiotics, or even ten, they now do five or seven. The bacteria he now has is a bad one. Pseudemonas. After being tested and treated a small amount at Marion ER, the decision was made to transfer him to a location where his kidney doctor has offices. His tests show he is close to being septic. They had to find a hospital that had the capacity to do emergency dialysis if it was needed. Newton, which I prefer because it is closer and easier to get to, was not equipped. Kansas Nephrologists have offices and an association with Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa, which I had barely ever heard of, and had never seen. Google and I found it, in the dark, way out west of Wichita. At first I thought some of the rules were strange, but you know what? After spending the day with them, I love these guys. Yes, it is a pain to get all the tests and stuff done before you can sleep but that helps get the treatments started sooner. Let's just say that Bob had a one on one nurse all day, and she was absolutely the sweetest person ever. Everyone cooperates with one another and really care about the patients. Bob is actually feeling better than he has in quite a while. As much as possible they bring the scans and testing to him in the room with portable machines. He is having some "plumbing problems" and they are also testing for C Diff. As long as he does not have a fever, though, he is not very confused. Sometimes he is frustrated, but he knows this is for his own good. Hopefully he does well tonight, because I just do not sleep well on the recliner or the sofa bed that they have. You guys are gonna get sick of me talking about all our medical experiences. One of the other patients at Marion ER was a doozy. Yes, she was in pain, but I get the impression she is rude anyway and used to having her way. As we waited I found myself praying for the people who were having to deal with her. She knew what she was doing, and did it anyway. But that is a different story. I am going to get some much needed sleep.

I hope Bob can get better. I know being sick is no fun and I know this isn't easy on either of you. I've done my share of sleeping in recliners, and their sofa beds in hospitals.

We do meet some angels too in our difficult times. I do hope Bob gets better soon. I had UTIs twice, the second time it was very uncomfortable.

I’ve been praying for you both. I am so glad you guys got such a great facility with caring staff. That must ease so much of your mind.

Years ago, when my appendix ruptured, I was rushed to a hospital in Springfield and then transferred to a bigger hospital in KC, Mo. Both the larger hospitals in KC and the larger hospital in Kansas City, Kansas have good staff. Grandma was treated in Kansas City, Kansas, way back when. We stayed with relatives up there while grandma was in the hospital and mom stayed with other relatives when I was in the hospital up there. I hope they get the infection cleared up this time. It sounds like they took Bob off the antibiotics too soon last time he went to the hospital. I hope you can get some sleep. Good luck to you and Bob!

I am glad it seems to be a great place to be in if you have to. Thinking of both of you.

I'm glad he's getting treated by such kind people. Hopefully, they'll be able to get on top of the bacteria very soon. Sending you best wishes for a really good sleep too.

I hope you can rest tonight, and that they can put a care plan in place for Bob. Take care of yourself, Heather.
