After an oppressive day of heat with no air conditioning (bless the people who never have any), my dad’s electricity came on about an hour ago, a full 24 hours after it went out. Hopefully, when I get up in the morning, my power will back on; I’ll definitely enjoy tonight at my dad’s with plenty of cold air. When the electricity made a noise that indicated it was on, my dad moved to look at the thermostat. I got up, blocked his access, and said, “Don’t you dare touch this thermostat!” He started laughing (as I knew he would) and left it alone. Some of you might remember my dad’s tendency to barely run the air to save money. It’s sort of a game to him. Believe me, he’s not playing around in 100 degree heat! The governor did declare our area a disaster, so people will be getting some help. They are saying it might take three days to fully restore power to everyone. My radiologist friend told me I could stay at his house and he’d stay somewhere else, but I’d feel funny running around in someone else’s home while they weren’t there. I tell you, if my dad’s power had not have come back on I might have taken him up on that tomorrow. Now I don’t need to.
