A need for cheerful things here.

This has been a week for sure. A cousin and her son were tragically killed Tuesday afternoon. This was near where I used to live...and the family of course is crazy grieving. My last remaining aunt, in her 90's but still active, driving, etc. has called numerous times...so have several cousins. I feel like the phone has been stuck to my ear for hours--well, I guess it has. We didn't have to go anywhere today, and I am so very thankful for that. My nerves were shot and I was so tired that I turned the ringer off of the phone and son and I both took a nap. I made a broccoli and chicken stir-fry for dinner and it was really good. We had pretty much eaten all of our leftovers. Now we have some more. But we will eat it tomorrow. It's July 9th, and son and I just heard a string of fireworks go off. I wish these people would just stop already!! I know bad things happen to good people and to bad people, too. Son said today we all need to appreciate and spend time with our loved ones and friends more often, and he's right.

I'm so sorry about your cousin and her grandson. Your son is right, if we have family we should spend more time with them while we still can.

Life and distance often keep us apart physically, but we can make every effort to stay close with phones and internet now, at least.

I know what you mean about distance @MarieCoyle all too often relatives lost touch due to distance back in the 50s and 60s but thankfully in this day and age that doesn't have to happen

I’m sorry for your loss. My week has been upside down too and I think I’m keeping the ringer off my phone this whole upcoming weekend

Because I have four children and their families, I rarely, if ever, turn the ringer off. But oh, I was so tired. I texted my oldest daughter and told her in case she called, and enjoyed my little snooze. I am sorry your week has been upside down. Hopefully things will get better soon.

Your son is right. All we can is be thankful for what we have while we have it. There is so much to be thankful for if we just look for it.

I am so thankful, so many don’t even have a home or food or anything. And as you say, there’s so much to be thankful for!

Nothing is ever certain and no one knows the future, all we can do is to try to live our best life.
