I was inspired this morning by a MyLotter who is working on a medium-term project.
I decided to start a new set of coasters.
As many MyLotters know, I like to make coasters out of acoustic guitar sound holes, sent to me (for free! They just toss them) mostly by Martin and Collings, two elite American guitar manufacturers.
I sometimes sell them for $30/pair or so, but mostly I give them to Bay Area musicians I have played with.
After I stain them, I apply several coats of polyurethane, so they can actually be used as coasters. If I do not coat them with a waterproof substance, moisture will get into the wood, and they will turn into potato chips (they will warp).
I'll attach a photo from this morning. One is stained. The other is soon to be stained.
Dang! I just had a flashback. Do any of you remember MyLotter @PaintsonSlate? She always had projcts going.

It's a shame that the guitar manufacturers haven't figured out a good re-use of the hole pieces, but I'm glad they are willing to give them to you so you can make something out of them.

@MommyOfEli2013 I mostly do it for the fun of it. And it's cheaper than playing golf.

I don't think I knew her, but if you can get $30/pair for those, that's pretty cool.

This is possibly a dumb question, but since I don't know, why do they have little holes in the middle? Does it make it easier to get it out of the hole?

@TheHorse - I didn't know how else to phrase it.

@teamfreak16 I didn't notice anything askew. I must be very innocent.

Yes, I remember very well @PaintsonSlate. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease several years ago.

Yes, I remember @painsonslate. She is/was Canadian. I wonder how she and her family have been doing?
BTW, I keep meaning to ask how your knee is doing? Are you still hobbling around like you're getting old or are you acting like a spring buck and chasing after the young ladies again?

Yes, I do remember her. We saw some lovely painted slate items in a shop near Coniston Waters.
