The Staples Hurt...

@DaddyEvil — the stitches themselves were the dissolving kind, but they had to be held in place for a week.

@FourWalls Sometimes I think doctors just "make-do" putting human bodies back together.

Thanks. I suggested we could see my regular doctor today and see if she'd take the staples out but they've only been in for a week and that isn't long enough.... *sigh*

That's what I thought at the time. I've had my hands stitched up, too. Those were definitely annoying at the time. I had carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand and put my right hand through our garage window. Both were fun times.

@DaddyEvil Oh, ugh. My mom and sister had carpal tunnel surgery. It was a necessary evil, but such an annoyance.

@AmbiePam Oh, I definitely agee. I couldn't take pain meds after I had the carpal tunnel surgery, though. The meds the doctor gave me made me throw up. When I complained, he told me he couldn't give me anything else.

@DaddyEvil - My husband could remove the staples after 8 days. I hope it works also for you.

I'm really hoping that's what happens when we see our regular doctor in a few days. (Tuesday morning.)

The staples are holding the hole closed so it can heal where the doctor put in the drain so they could remove spinal fluid while I was in the hospital. IF they put the real drain in, it will be located behind my left ear in that soft spot. That leads directly into a person's skull and they can leave that in for the rest of my life.

@DaddyEvil Oh wow! Is that area going to get stitched up? Are they gonna put the real drain in?

@DaddyEvil I can imagine! Once you know something is coming out, waiting for it can feel twice as long. Hopefully next week comes quickly and you can finally get some relief.

Okay, okay... You've got me beat! At least Pretty wasn't very big when she was born. That never stopped her mom from complaining, though.

Hey! It's been a while since I've seen you! I hope you and your son are doing well. I'm just having a little trouble with hydrocephalus (water on the brain, older adult version). I'm having trouble with my balance, walking oddly and losing memories. My neurologist had me check into a hospital last week so they could run tests on me to see if I'm a good candidate for a drain and tube running from my head into my abdomen to drain off spinal fluid to relieve pressure on my brain. The test seemed to work but we go back this coming week to see what the neurologist says. The staples were put in after the hose was removed from my spine. The neurologist will remove the staples when she sees me next week. I just have to put up with them a little while longer.

Wow! You weere really anxious to get out of there, weren't you? I'm glad things turned out well for you!

I don't have drainage and the staples are smaller than the pad on a regular bandage.

But you had fun playing with your baby so probably didn't notice the staples most of the time. I don't have a baby to play with me.

Yes, to hold the wound closed until it heals.

Thanks. Pretty washes that area for me so I don't snag on a washcloth or a scrubbie and yank the staples out.
