Everybody Cries....

Today the twins started JK. It is all day every day for the little 4-year olds.
Out the door and an escorted walk with their parents and Grandpa and 1 neighbour girl, Faith, who is in grade 8 at their school.
Faith offered to make sure that they get on and off the bus at the right stops. Very sweet of her.
Our son and DIL drove to the school and met the girls getting off of the bus. They wanted to be there in case there were any announcements for the parents. Ms Plum, their teacher, came along, and pointed to Willow and said, let me guess, you are Harper, and then pointed to Harper and said and you must be Willow. The girls just nodded, they are used to hearing you are Willow and Harper.
Apparently the day went well. I think that the pace might be a bit quick for Willow. She 'forgot' that she had a lunchpail, but Harper was kind enough to share her lunch and snacks. She also had her shoes on the wrong feet, probably rushing after the bell rang. These things will work out in a few days.
After lunch, while out on the playground, Harper cried. And she cries big tears. She must have missed being home with Grandpa. She wiped her tears on Willow's top, which is what she does when she cries at home and wipes her hands full of tears on Grandpa's shirt.
I told her it was okay that she cried, because Grandpa cried today too. She was just surprised that Grandpa could cry. 
I told her that Daddy missed them so much that he drove by their school twice to see if he could see them. Of course I am thankful he didn't especially if she was crying.

No, but I was a lot older. I was 5 going on 6, besides my neighbor boy playmate and best friend started school at the same time.

A year or 2 makes a huge difference.
Time management will help Willow with not getting her lunchpail because she was probably in the bathroom because I suggested to her to take the time to go when she had recess or lunch.
Grandpa will be better tomorrow as he will be working on our son's basement, which they are finishing.

Being an only chidl ti was terrifying my first day at kindergaten, We lived close by so my Dad worked a vew blocks from the apartment and walked me to school, Mom worked in Manhattan. He brought me and I was told to take a seat in the hallway, I felt awful,I saw my dad leaving and I threw up. They told him I was not ready for school givng dad an instant headache of what to do now

Thank you, it takes a village sometimes.
After they eat their lunch at home with Grandpa, they sit on the couch, and each snuggles on 1 side of him and they have quiet time. He will ready to them or turn a TV show on or something, and I think that was the time of day that Harper cried. But my heart went out to her and I told her that Grandpa cried, and when she asked why, I explained to her that he's been looking after them since they were babies, and now they are big. She quickly announced that she is not a baby! She will be fine once she gets used to everything, and realize how long she is at school for and that Grandpa and I will be waiting for her at the bus stop a few doors away from their home.

I don't think I did. That was only about 68 years ago so it's getting a little fuzzy. Sounds like they are doing well. It's quite a transition.

Four years old seems so young for school. Kids here can go to pre-school at 4, I think. In some places, 3. I know they have to be potty-trained, but of course the twins are. I feel sorry for Harper. What a long day that must have been for her.
I didn't cry when I went to school. But I was a total crybaby when my kids started school--it was so hard. Of course I never let them know. When my oldest went away to college was really, really hard, as it was when the rest of them went.
Time goes so very fast. One day they are stumbling around our feet, or we are carrying them in our arms. Blink, and they are waving as they go out the door. It flies by....way too quickly.

No, but Pretty did. Grandma walked Pretty to school every day since I dropped Pretty off with grandma every morning when I went to work. (Grandma only lived two houses away from the school.)

My first few days were pretty awful although I don't remember much really. I had little preparation although I did have a big sister.
