It isn’t what we thought.

Well, my stepmom does not have a UTI like she thought she did. The test came back negative, so that’s a relief at least. We don’t know what else is wrong, but maybe it’s just one of those things. She has iffy health from the car wreck she had decades ago where she was almost split in half. Something like that can have untold consequences so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was related to the wreck. Mostly because I feel like nothing can surprise me anymore. I should probably not say that just in case Somebody feels like proving me wrong. I guess we’re going to go on the cruise and she doesn’t have to leave the boat if she doesn’t want to. She doesn’t have to leave her room if she doesn’t want to, but I know she wants to have fun and I know we will.

Did they check her for a TIA? Yesterday when you said she was dizzy and vision was messed up in one eye, I know that is a indicative of a TIA...I know she wants to go, and I know you all want her to go. Did they purchase any additional medical insurance for the trip?

No, the vision was messed up in her eye last year when she had a UTI, NOT this time. I’m sure her doctor checked though; he’s incredibly thorough. My dad said he’s the best doctor he’s ever had.

@MarieCoyle You’re fine, Marie. Who can keep up with my family's medical travails?

@AmbiePam Oh, good. I am glad there is such a good doctor, I know how much that means. Sorry I misunderstood about the eye thing, I think I read it as it was just recently, sorry for the mix-up.

Well that is good it is not a UTI. But sorry you don't know what else is wrong. Oh wow, that was a really bad wreck, sorry to hear that.

@AmbiePam Just a lap belt? Not really sure to be honest. But that sounds just awful...

Maybe by the time it is time to go on the cruise they might have some answers on what is wrong, and she can get a med or something. It would be nice to have some answers.

Can allergies make a person dizzy? I think I’ve experienced that before.

Didn't know that UTI can make someone dizzy and vision messed up. I had UTi before.

Apparently, the symptoms change as we get older because I didn’t know that either. But frequent falls in older people can even be a symptom. My symptoms of having a UTI are much more of the common symptoms everyone normally thinks of when they think UTI. I guess at 71 (my stepmom’s age) things are just different.

Can they give her anything to help her at least feel better, while you guys are on the cruise?

I should ask her about that. My doctor gave me that week’s worth of steroids because he said it would help get me through the week easier.

@thislittlepennyearns She is still taking her antibiotic I think.

@AmbiePam I would imagine maybe a steroid and antibiotic at the very least would be helpful to her.

That is the one good thing about cruises is that you can do as much as little as you want and there’s no schedule

Exactly. She doesn’t have to do anything if she doesn’t want to.

She’ll probably get better medical treatment on the ship than at home. Isn’t that sad. I hope they figure out something so she’ll have an answer.

I thought she had uncommon symptoms for a UTI, even for an older age those were not common. I am pretty sure that you are right, her problem is related to the terrible car wreck she had decades ago. The problems from those serious accidents always remain with us.

Those were her symptoms of her last UTI, so she just assumed. I think she was hoping for it to be easily resolved like last time.

Sometimes these things come back to haunt us as we get older. I know those who had polio years back and seemed to get over it had more problems later in life and associated with their past illness.

Glad the test came back negative, that's a good start at least. Hope she gets some answers soon, but a cruise sounds like a nice way to relax either way. Funny how saying nothing can surprise you is basically asking for it, I'd knock on wood too.
