Well, that was unfortunate.

We made the flight, but barely, even though we were there three hours early. They wheeled me to a gate that was not ours, but the lady said she took us to the right gate. Not feeling right, my stepmom twice asked the gate agent if we were at the right place, and she said yes, our gate had just changed without us knowing. Thirty minutes til boarding a guy my dad is talking to tells us he really thinks they told us wrong. My dad gets up, walks and walks…and calls me to tell me to book it to such and such gate because they had been telling us wrong the whole time. No chance for a wheelchair. I limped as fast as my long legs could go. Diana, with short little legs, did double time. My dad met us half way, helped us with our bags, and we made it in time to board.
The flight was smooth on takeoff and landing. So, what’s unfortunate? They LOST my dad’s breathing machine. Yes, his CPAP. He had it to bring as his carry on. He put it down to hand over his checked bag, and when he turned around it was gone. He asked what happened to it and they said they grabbed it and sent it along with his bag. He said, but there was no tag on it because it was my carry on. Too late now they said. Not surprisingly, it did not make it to baggage claim despite having his name on it. Once again, those morons grabbed it with no tag! He went to file a claim when we arrived in Virginia, but of course, they don’t know what happened to it. My dad has a great attitude about it. He didn’t get angry, didn’t get accusatory…poor guy just will have quite a week of interrupted sleep! Add him to the prayer list!
I’m at the hotel sharing a room with Amyra, and we board in the morning. My sister said we should leave the hotel at 9am. We’re so close!

I am so sorry about your dad not having his breathing machine. I would check with medical on the cruise ship. Some of them keep extras of those.

Oh that is frustrating! With boarding the cruise tomorrow. unlikely you will be able to hook up with the machine in time. I hope the trip is good anyway. Maybe he can get some of those breathe right strips. They should be better than nothing.

I’m really sorry that happened. Those machines are not cheap. I’ve lost track of how many items, luggage, etc I have had lost or misplaced, etc by airlines. The most memorable was a suitcase full of Christmas gifts that we didn’t get returned until two months later-in February!!

And the only reason we got them back was because always put a paper in my suitcases with my name, address and phone number on it. I also put an alternate emergency number if it’s ever needed.

Ooh that was very close and it was absolutely not your fault. I know why I do not fly.

There are hundreds of reasons why I don’t fly. You just touched on about 80 of them.
What a terrible start to your trip. I certainly pray that the rest of it goes better. And, I pray that your dad doesn’t have any problems without his CPAP machine.

Unfortunate that the guy who got you all to the correct gate was the one who had his carry on taken wrongly.
Hopefully if he files a claim for his loss it can be found and returned to him, you will be on the cruise for a long time that they have plenty of time to make up for their mistake. But without that machine on his cruise will be worrisome.
I really hope that it is recovered.

Oh no !
What on earth are these people thinking ! Certainly not doing their job are they.
I very much doubt your lovely Dad will get that machine back ….it could be half way to Italy by now, on a holiday of its own !
What a palarva with being taken to the wrong gate ….again staff not doing their job !
Don’t let the bumpy start spoil your holiday though ….have a fabulous time.

Sorry to hear about both of those things, it is frustrating when they tell you wrong and insist it is right. Then if they lose your stuff too. Hopefully it is found though, even though at the time they didn't know what happened to it.

Travel is always an adventure. Your stepmother will need to keep an eye on your dad to make sure he hasn’t stopped breathing too long in his sleep without his CPAP.

Your Dad is such a sport I'm sure he'll try not to let it spoil the cruise. Will he just need extra naps?
