For the Ladies

Was sitting in a waiting room the other day for about an hour. Needed to have x-rays and ofcourse the scheduling was way behind. Noticed many females coming in the office and their hairdo's. Most weren't very becoming and then I wondered why or how women choose their hairstyles. Did this ever cross your mind when you were bored and simply looking around in a public facility?

I consider this as an interesting discussion I I do the people watching most of the time.It is quite strange to see these people deck themselves beautifully, normally, shabby say and some in outlandish ways. Each and every person having a great image in their mind while it is a case of disaster to on lookers at times.

Thanks for the nice compliment about the discussion. I couldn't help but think about hairsyles the other day as each and every female walked into the office. I wondered if some bypassed their mirrors! Thanks for responding.

I do that too to a certain extent. You can't help it in waiting rooms. I notice the differences in hair styles. Some of them are cute, others just make you wonder 'why' - LOL. I guess it's our natural curiousity about people in general ya know.

When the face doesn't fit the hair or the hair doesn't fit the face, I notice. Then I ask myself what they are thinking. Thanks for responding.

they'd really have to stand out for me to notice. i'm usually silently hoping i don't fall asleep in the waiting room. i have seen a few wardrobe malfunctions, though.i'm surprised the doctor let them work in them.

You are amazing if you can fall asleep in the waiting room. You must be relaxed. I understand about the wardrobe situation. Thanks for responding.

I don't get out much and don't tend to people watch when I do, but boy! some of the hair and clothing styles now days just reach out and grab you! Hair styles don't usually get my attention but sometimes I wonder "what were you thinking when you got dressed? Did you get dressed in the dark? Did you forget to do the laundry?" I'm definitely old and set in my ways.

I do like some of the short hair styles real well. Some of the people I saw the other day did just look like they rolled out of bed and missed looking in the mirror. Our kids call it "bedhead." Thanks for responding.

I tend to people analysis when I am waiting for something too. As far as hairstyles, I guess I wonder why the particular hairstyles were chosen. I am more aware of the people who have fake hair, and wonder why they decided to wear those extensions or wigs or hair pieces.

I think hair loss is very bothersome to females moreso than males which would explain the wigs. I have seen some men with toupees that look horrible. They were real obvious and then I have seen some nice ones too. Thanks for responding.

hi carolbee, i love people watching when im waiting for someone or something in a public place. hairstyles i think make or break the beauty of a person if you know what i mean. (and i don't mean that to be mean) if a certain hairstyle doesn't suit the shape of a woman's face is doesn't compliment their beauty, and i same goes for hair color on certain skin tones but yes, to answer your question i do wonder sometimes why people chose a certain hairstyle

Good response. I agree about the shape of the face and hair color. I've seen some strange hairdo's over the years. I wonder sometimes if these people have mirrors! Thanks for respondig.

I have also looked at the hairstyles. I think some of them look good on them but would not look good on me.

I usually look at the hair style of other women. I frequently mentally get a comb to make their hair more presentable. I wear my hair short and straight, but it does get combed frequently. I'm aware that it would look better with some curl. However I wear it the way I do because I can take care of it myself. I used to have very long hair but I got to the point that I could not take care of it because of my shaking hand. he pain from my arthritis does not help, either.

Short is easier but when it's not kept trimmed, ouch! Mine is short also and frosted just to give it body. Thanks for responding.

Hi carolbee, I don't think I have ever thought of that but I recond they chose their hair style because they think it suits them. Tamara

Hi carol! I sure do aways look at womens hairdos! Especially because i am trying to decide what to do with my hair! I had let it grow and now I am trying to decide what to do with it! I have very curly fine hair and I let my layers grow in and now I don't know what to do with it! So I am always looking around to see what I can find to give me some idea what to do with my own hair!

I have a daughter with curly hair and she just started wearing it short since she is getting thin on top. It looks so much better. I have had 3 different beauticians tell me to keep my hair short since it's getting thin on top. I frost it too just to give it some body. My hair is so baby fine. Makes the hair swell and I can handle it better. Thanks for responding.

I tend to wonder about older women who are still wearing those beehive hairdos. I wonder when they're going to get out of the late '50s and early '60s. I also wonder how they keep from toppling over. I also wonder about men who dye their hair. I've never seen one that looked good.

What kills me is a crooked toupe or one of those comb overs like the men wear. I get so tickled but can't laugh. Yesterday I saw a woman with a pageboy. She was younger than myself, had extremely thin hair and it looked a little odd. Guess she liked it! Thanks for responding.

Hmmm, I really don't care other people's appearance, for they're none of my business. But, I would still have comments about 'em, ha ha ha. I would always ask myself, did they looked at the mirror before leaving their respective homes? :D

I don't know why some women choose such unflattering hairstyles, carolbee, but I have noticed some awful ones.Sometimes even professional women who should know better even do this. Add to the list certain movie stars(whose hairdressers should know better)! Men can also be guilty of terrible hairstyles, ie., the comb-over. When I think of people with awful hairstyles a woman who worked in the film industry a long time ago immediately comes to mind. I believe she was just as famous for her bad hairstyle as she was for her talent.

Lol, good response. Some people are always in a hurry. This I understand. Have a daughter who fits into that category. Rush, rush to get no place or sleep until the last minute and then hurry to do the hair. The comb over drives me crazy. A bald man can be sexy. Add a but if facial hair to a bald head and walla, there is a sexy man. Remember Yul Brenner? The women were crazy about his looks. Thanks for responding.

I think most women like myself have chosen their hairstyels because of what they've seen on television. Most of us women try hard to memic the media whats hot and whats not, and most of the time we either don't have the money to do it right or it doens't come out the way we seen it on a celeberity the funny thing I was talking to my husband the other day about how I change my hair style so much... (every week) and how I would like to find a style that fits me and I can wear on a constant bases... but I love changing up my hair, like I do my clothes and music I think thats just apart of me and will never change LOL... But back to subject we try to hard, and it usually comes out all wrong...

A couple of the styles I saw yesterday I've never seen on television. They were so unbecoming. I keep my hair short so I can't do much changing around. Thanks for responding.

I do...sitting at the craft sale watching people go by was very interesting....what was even more fun was the gal next to me pulled her chair up beside me and we watched together...And we saw everything from a brushup..which was the second hairdo I learned in beauty school back in 1969...to the younger girls basically all sporting the same type of cut...it was fun!

I like that brushup look where the hair is going every direction. Don't like it on the men as much as I do the women. I like the spiked look also. I also like the bleached blonde look with the spike and messy hair. I think the lead singer from the musical group Pink has the coolest style. I am an old broad but love those styles on everyone. People watching is one of my favorite hobbies. Thanks for responding.

Hi, carolbee! I guess they like the style. They want to try something new. They want to present a different kind of image. They want to be seen. They are just showing off. They just like to come uo with different styles that makes them unique. They have gotten bored with their old hairstyle, and they want to try out something new and different. They think that their hairstyle brings out their face. They want to be in style with today's hair styles. And they may could be modeling this particular hairstyle soon on a hairstyle show. These are my personal reasons. Finally, they may like this style because said that it would look good on them. Or they could have seen another female with the same style, and they liked it so they chose it for their own. This usually happens a lot with the ladies in my town.

The couple of goofy styles I saw yesterday were just that, goofy..lol Some of these women were around my age or maybe a couple of years younger. Thinning hair and trying to wear a pageboy is a little much. Thanks for responding.

I can only speak for myself but I choose any style that is wash and wear. Even though I have time...I don't like to spend to much time on my hair. I concentrate more on my clothes and makeup and have always had pretty boring hair. My mom never taught me how to style it and I never became good at it. I love people watching, I think the first thing that catches my eye is the outfit...I see some pretty crazy stuff . I notice the hair too if it is really unflattering.

I agree about the wash and wear. I have short hair but keep it trimmed so it never looks sloppy. It usually stands straight up out in the wind. Bless hairspray. Thanks for responding.
