What do you do when you cannot sleep? Its one of those nights when it is becoming hotter. I cannot close my eyes and I ended coming back on the computer. What would you do on such nights? How do you tackle lack of sleep?

i can sympathize w/you because i'm not a good sleeper either. i have the advantage not working anymore of going back to bed & sleeping till i wake up no matter what time it is. when i was still working i couldn't do that. it makes it rough if u have to work after no sleep. i usually get back on the computer, read or watch some tv. hope u sleep better.

Hi, ronald.. This caught my attention because I am having trouble getting some sleep especially now that I'm addicted to computer - blogging, reading, writing, playing - everything is with the computer now. When it's too hot, my body feels so drained so I tend to be so sleepy in the afternoon. But in the evening to midnight, I can't sleep. What I do is tire myself out from biking or stretching. But most of the times, I can't sleep especially if I have deadlines to finish. I get cranky in the morning. I am trying to be responsible since now that I have a baby to look after i really need enough sleep so I have energy in the morning. Right now, it's 5 am and we are going to a lunch date later.. so.. still I'm not disciplined. I don't even know what I'm saying to you. I hope it's making any sense.

When I can not sleep I get on the computer and play games or check my email. Or I watch tv if I don't really feel much like doing anything else. I will sometimes drink a warm tea made from chamomile that will help me to go to sleep. A lack of sleep and handling it well I don't have to do things more or less so I do what I can and get online doing what I can here when I'm too tired to do others things from a lack of sleep.

I think going to the computer is the wrong thing to do. I just lay on my pillow and eventually I will go to sleep. You have to be quiet and make sure there are no distractions, no noise, and no eating a big meal or snacking after eight pm. What you need is to calm down and do not get excited. No starting of projects and warm milk will help.

I don't have any real advice for you as I am no expert in this but I can say that I relate to you because I have the same problems as you. I am a horrible sleeper and have been all of my 52 years. For example, last night I couldn't sleep and ended up watching TV, in bed, till 5:30 this morning and then got up at 8:30 and have been online since. I couldn't sleep and gave up and just got up. I hope I won't be too tired the rest of the day, but I probably will and not be able to fall asleep to catch up. I will probably not have a good day today. So I wanted to post a response to your discussion so I can see what others have to say about this and maybe, just maybe, someone knows a way that would work for me.

Hey ronaldinu! I do exactly what you do! I come back to the computer! I was up until 6am this morning and it wasn't even because of the heat! What am I going to do when it gets hot here! I can't ever sleep when it's hot! I have serious insomnia so I am online alot until early in the morning! But, I don't have to go to work like you do so it isn't so bad unless I have an early morning appointment! Today I slept on and off until about 2:00pm! That still isn't a good thing! I waste the day when I don't have anything scheduled and when I do I have such a hard time getting up and doing what I need to! I haven't been able to find a cure for my insomnia! My doctor is trying to help me!

I only need three hours of sleep . I usually just stay up watching a good show or a movie until I get sleepy. If I don't get sleepy, then I don't sleep.

Hello ronaldinu, Before I get to know myLot, I will read a book until I fall asleep. Sometimes, I will do house chores at the wee hours. After joining myLot, I will be here whenever I can't sleep. That is one good thing that happens when I can't sleep at night - have fun and earn something here!

I try many things: Warm glass of milk. Tired, but laying awake and stomach seems hungry, that cure works the best. Listening to relaxation tapes. When my mind wants to "chew" on things that are bothering me, that cure works the best. 2 Tylenol PM, when my arthritis is bothering me and I can't find a comfortable position to sleep in because of pain, that one works the best. But I can only do that three nights in a row. 4th night, I get a reverse reaction, stay awake all night. But usually by the third night, I've re-established a sleep pattern and started taking hot baths or sleeping with a hot pad or something to help me go to sleep or sometimes I even find a comfortable position. So those are the three cures of my life. About once a month I have a problem and I usually can cure it in one of those three ways.

For hot nights, we cheat. We bought an air conditioning unit with thermostat control. We put it about 10 to 20 degrees cooler than the air we were in all day and that seems to help us sleep. On energy-saver, it's very quiet and only costs us about 1 to 5 dollars more per month than without it. We bought it just at the end of the hot season when it was cooling off, in the fall when they were trying to get rid of them at about 1/2 price.

It depends on what I have to do the next day. When I was working and couldn't sleep I would take some diphenhydramine (Benedryl) to help me sleep. Now that I'm not, I read a book or drink some hot tea. If nothing works, I'll give up and watch an old movie on television. It's miserable to not be able to sleep, yet be so very tired.

Hello my friend ronaldinu Ji, Well, for me, if I was unable to sleep at night, I would always sleep in day time to compensate. But on eshould wash hand/face/mouth, before going to bed. If possible, remember Almighty in any form. Try to sleep, leaving one's head empty. When one thinks about next morning appointments, one may not go into sleep. let's remain fresh. Also, one must become overtired to get proper sleep. May God bless You and have a great time.

When I can't sleep I have a book and a puzzle book beside my bed, but that means I have to get out of bed to turn the light on as I don't have a lamp or a switch near my bed, it's worst in the winter because I have to get out of a nice warm bed so I just lay there and close my eyes. When that doesn't work I reluctantly get out of bed and turn the light on, usually doing a couple of sudokus or reading a chapter of my book will send me to sleep.

If for some reason I cannot sleep, I usually get up and forget about it. I have found that if you worry about not sleeping, you can keep yourself awake worrying, so better to just accept what is happening. - Derek

I rely on my good ole supplement called Melatonin. It's a godsend for me. I don't feel groggy, I wake up refreshed and ready to go. And it's non addicting. Ahhh, sleep.

Most times I'll get up and turn the T.V. and the computer on. Other times I'll just lay there hoping that sleep with overtake me again. It's always hit or miss with me. I don't have any big secrets to share. I wish I did. I have sleeping pills, but, I don't take them everynight because I don't want my system to become so immune to them where I end up having to up the dosage. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I don’t get insomnia like I used to. I used to have it so I just stayed up then went to sleep when my body told me too. If I absolutely had to stay awake I just persevered until the soonest possible moment I could go to bed. I just had to wait until I pretty much passed out from tiredness. My doctor told me to do it that way because I had abused awake and sleeping pills for so long. I have heard it is the best way to do it because you start to follow your body again and it will eventually get back into a better sync.
