Some people like music to be played very softly.THere are others who would prefer a loud volume. And of course we know how we can enjoy good drumbeats with a nice music system.Of course you have the IPODS etc..,What is your normal preference?Do you have any at all or don't mind either way?As far as I am concerned I personally keep at a gentle medium level, but if there are youngsters around and they keep it loud I still like it.It adds to the merriment in the company. Please share your likes, preferences, whys and why nots for these choices.

Hi kala, i think it depends on the occasion. I keep my radio on in my kitchen when i am cooking and i like it playing softly in the background. But my children play western music at full blast and i enjoy that too, because it is fun lostening to it with them..But i like soft songs as a rule mainly old film songs by Rafi, Lata, Manna dey, Talat Mehmood, Geeta dutt, Asha . I also like Abba, Carpenters, Beatles, Eagles...most of them are soft and mellow..

So it means thta your heart beats for soft music more Kiran. THta is true.Jazz and rock music with enthusiastic band would be better when heard and enjoyed with children.

I am a very reclusive, soft spoken and timid kind of person. I love gentle things and people who talks soft yet are assertive. Coming to music preference, I love soft music that comprises of pop, reggae, Rabindra Sangeet, blues, country. For this reason alone i have never been able to appreciate hard rock and metal. Today youngsters go to listen (rather watch)bands. But I just cannot. They play such loud music that its more of a noise to me. Sorry, if I hurt anyone. I think my tympanum is not attuned to loud music.

Timid'--Really??;Well I too was timid one point of time. But, times have changed and now a lion would be scared of me[just kidding]--It is true that sometimes very loud music gets on our nerves. But I can appreciate very good band music at home especially wehn my son plays it;he has a very sensitive ear and somehow I like the music he plays most of the time.He loves 'Call of the valley' too[I am sure you would love it.

I love to listen to music from the 1960's or '70's but don't want it too loud. I always have the radio on in the car but not always on at home. I like it soft enough so I can hear the phone. Loud music can cause nerve damage in the eardrums as I was told by an ear, nose and throat doctor years ago.

It was my pleasure Crolbee and my reason was your statement 'Loud music can cause nerve damage in the eardrums as I was told by an ear, nose and throat doctor years ago'--I know it but I thought if by chance some youngster or some person who is unaware gets to read this and tries to safeguard oneself I would be doing a good deed for the day.

When it is hazardous to health too, it is advisable to reduce the volume.Somehow, youngsters prefer it in full volume.Thank you for the participation.

Hi Kala.....I love listening to music, and the volume preference depends on my mood......On some days I just love to listen to rock music with much noise,on other days I love listening to melodies and gazals in a sombre atmosphere.....But i ofetn feel that I can listen to music for more time when it is playing at a moderate volume....Loud music becomes jarring after some time....Also even when my children put on loud music I ask them to turn the volume down so that I will not miss the phone or the door bell ringing ,in all the din......

Hi Kala...I need some clarifications about your comments......Are you glad to see me because it is very hot there?.... Any way here,in Kerala , we always have a warm tropical climate through out the year and are so used to it.The rainy season is in June ,but we often get summer showers in May which cools down the atmosphere a bit..........

That depends on my mood and on the kind of music i am listening to. For example i usually have ambient and chillout music in the background while studying with a low volume. Rock music usually needs to be listened louder. Also sometimes i listen to music to isolate myself from the external noise (so i have to listen to something louder than the noise) like on the subway. Anyway i usually prefer to listen to a low volume music when possible.

It depends on my mood! Most of the time, I prefer love songs or popular country music at a moderate level. Sometimes, if I'm in a very melancholy mood, I only want slow music that is very sad. Then there are times, when I want rock music turned up at full blast. When I'm angry at my hubby, I like to drive back country roads with the radio on full blast with classic 80's rock music

I prefer normal volume music, music where you can listen to it comfortably so you are not straining to hear it because it is too quiet, but you are not deafened because it is too loud. I like to listen to music out of speakers rather than headphones as headphones make my ears feel funny and sometimes they ring although I may only have the volume really low. My pet hate is when you are on public transport and people have their headphones in and you can hear their music, if someone on the other side of the bus can hear then it is too loud.

THank you very much for the excellent elaborate response. What is the point of a headphone if music is heard on the other side of the bus?No wonder it is your pet hate.

hello kalav56!!! Well I prefer listening the calm songs with the louder volume in speakers when I am inside my room doing somethings. Its very interesting to hear in the louder volume, loud enough to make the room like the environment of the song and sounds coming from all the sides. Well this thing is very interesting. But if the songs are really heavy, I prefer the gentle volume because it disturbs the neighbors. Also same while using headphones. Specially when I try to sleep, I play the music in high volume over my headphones, close my eyes and lost myself deep deep in the lyrics and imagine the environment as clear as I can. This is the greatest and most exciting feeling of listening music. happy mylotting

SO, music transports you to the world where it was originally played or what it depicted. That is a great feeling if you are going to feel the rustle of the stream and the sound of the mountains and valleys.

I guess I'm one of those youngsters who like to have it in a loud volume... But it depends upon the situation. Hehe.. Music has always been my company may it be during the day or at night... I used to listen to it at a loud volume during the day... I particularly listen to those with fast beats and rhythms. ^_^ but at night, I prefer love songs and the like and played softly in a gentle volume... ^_^

Hi Kala!I am very fond of music ,especially bollywood songs.I bought a mobile with fm radio facility just for hearing songs, especially when I am in the kitchen .I keep my ipod on while going to sleep.I also like light music and devotional songs too.I like to keep the volume medium till I get the lyrics of the song, after that I prefer low volume. What I like to do is download a song and keep hearing the same song till its lyrics are very familiar. Then I hunt for my next favourite on the net to download. I do fear constant use of headphones might harm my hearing sense.Even when I am posting this I am hearing to a song.

Im a music lover. I usually have music in a background when Im sleeping. Music is like sleeping pills for me. It relaxes my mind which will give me better and good rest. Volume will definitely depends on what's my mood or what im doing then when listening to my favorite music. When going to bed I, it should be medium volume. When Im doing something, I tend to switch the volume control to almost full (but not too loud) especially on my favorite songs. By the way, just to share I love slow rock, alternative music and little of reggae. Thanks for the discussion.

Thank you very much for your kind and detailed response.Mood does play an important role in the music.ANd as such, when we are off color, loud music may even irritate us more than what we are already.

Hi! Kala![em]happy[/em] Given the choice I would not prefer very loud music. I like to keep the volume of my music player at a moderate but audiable level. Sometimes, one gets excited and raises the volumne on hearing his favourite number, however, I have observed that listen to music at a higher volume does not help much. One tends to feel uneasy after sometime, if the music is going on at a high volume and moreover one cannot talk or listen to others. However, if the volume is low or medium, I enjoy the music for longer duration and do not feel bored at all. Moroever, I am able to pay my attention to my better half or kids if they are asking for anything, else if I continue with loud music, they all feel ignored and it is not good, I believe. Good Post!

Hi Kala, I don’t like to hear the songs in loud volume. I prefer to hear the same in medium volume like you. My husband likes to hear his fvourite songs in high volume and it really irritates me and I can’t enjoy the same. I am requesting him to reduce the volume and don’t disturb the neighbors. Actually he wanted to watch the expression of my younger son when the music plays in high volume, the younger one is really enjoys and happy with his father’s action. So he smiles on my request and getting busy with younger one.

My father used to keep the transistor quite loud when he was paralysed and was incapacitated.Poor thing! I do not know how it helped him.He had no time for music when he was active. But gentle melody is like mountain breeze .No doubt about it.Do you have two sons Sree or the first one is a daughter? How old are they?

That really depends on my mood. I usually prefer music to be of reasonable volume, but sometimes the mood calls for something that will blast all the thoughts out of my head. Loud music that's forced on me is never okay though. :)

i prefer gentle medium level because i have to consider where am i, who i am with, and it's friendly to the ears. loud noise destroys our hearing system snd it irritates other people.

Hello friend, I am also a big music fan and I listen to all kinds of music. Thus, the volume of my music system is dictated by the kind of music I am listening. If there is a ballad from Boyzone playing, I like it soft. If there's Enrique or Eminem, I like it loud :)

I always play music loudly. I love R&B, hip hop, and pop music and type of music like that should be listened with high bass and high volume. In the office, I use earphone and usually listen to radio tuner and put it on medium volume, but usually I only use in one of my ear, since I should still be aware of my surrondings all the time:)
